Seatbelt/Airbag

Hoping you guys may be able to help me. Shortly after I installed the stereo in my 06' 330i (PDX5, MS-8, JL 10w6v2, focal comps), the airbag light and seatbelt light came on. It was several days, maybe 2 weeks after install so i assumed it wasn't related. I assumed it was the seat mat sensor that is covered under recall, however I learned when i took it to the dealer, the previous owner of the car had already had the seat mat replaced under the recall (isn't the culprit) and the error light was being thrown by the battery (BST). I checked the battery and found that i had pinched two BST wires under the metal piece that holds the battery in. I freed these wires and the dealer turned the light off. It stayed off for about 2 weeks then came on again.

Anyone come across this before? I've found a ton of threads on the mat sensor and a few with the airbag light coming on from a BST or battery issues but no solutions. I've attached a photo of my battery.

I had this problem some time ago. It would randomly set usually after going over a bumpy railroad crossing or something. Dealer wanted to sell me a whole new BST clamp, but I figured out myself that it was a loose connection in the actual connector (the black connector just below your crimp-on connectors in the photo). I popped it open and spread the pins apart a bit with a screwdriver to make a better connection.

Thanks for this. I will try this and report back. Problem is a have to go back to the mechanic to get the code cleared!

Check out the first post of the "BMW coding success" thread (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=451145) and get yourself a cheap INPA cable off ebay for $50 or less (make sure they have a return guarantee since they seem to be hit or miss at that price). That's probably less than your mechanic will charge to clear the code.

Okay, took the battery apart and bent out the connectors a bit. While doing this I noticed the wire with the plug (red and blue wires pictured hanging in the middle of the battery). This was draped down the side of the battery and I hadn't noticed it before. What is this and shouldn't it be plugged in somewhere?

No, that's just a connection used when the car is being shipped overseas. Monitoring or trickle charging or something.
