Just Fitted My New Wheels!!!

my wheels arrived from the states on friday less than 7 days door to door.

I've had Dunlop sp9000s fitted 265,30,19 at the rear the rears are ET22 offset and the fronts are 235,35,19 with ET38 offset.

With the runflats i didnt think the ride was that bad, however the ride is now amazing, for god sake fellas those of you with runflats get them changed the difference is shocking, what a massive transformation.
Hope you enjoy the pictures

What do you think??

All thats left is to lower it, and its getting remapped on the 20th

Not my cup of tea tbh, I prefer the OEM wheels. However, it does look good, arent there some optional E92 BMW 17" multi spoke wheels that look a bit similar?

They look great Steve, the E90 ride really does improve with proper rubber.
Now fit some stiffer springs to see what the chassis is really capable of.

Are these the one's you are thinking of, but these are 19" - I quite like them and have considered them for my car

Oli, they weren't the ones I was thinking of, it was the Radial Spoke Style 187 wheels - 17" option on on the E92 320/325/330 d/i.

Your wheels look like split rims (?) are they a dealer accessory?

Hello Peter

They are not my wheels.

This was a pic I found on the main forum. They are BMW assesory wheel 198, and I think look amazing - about £400+VAT+tyre each

Actually I like the originals ...you don't fancy selling them to me do you?

But the new alloys do make your car look individual

Is there a safty issue with the non run-flats? The car was designed to use them.

They look quite good though, although personally, I think I prefer OEM wheels

No safety issues, except no spare.

But what you have always got to ask yourself - Why are RFT's not fitted to M cars????? - Because they compromise the ride and handing - strange considering the BMW is always sold as the drivers car

God knows. I have gone accross the whole spectrum of wheels and decided on BMW OEM, AC Schnietzer or Alpina - basically something that you can buy from a dealer - Which will be better come re-sale time.

I have learnt with my present car - MKV R32, that people are not mods friendly - I only had 19" BBS CH's, Milltek exhaust and BMC filter - but people just assume because it has been modded that it has been thrashed within an inch of its life.

Dont get me wrong my E91 will have some very carefully chosen mods - Blacklines and black out grille (can all be changed back to standard easily), lowering springs (proably going for Hartge for these, so wont effect the warranty), 19" wheels (to be decided yet........) and a remap (sshhhhhh).

Still as Im typing this Im thinking non OEM wheels again!!! Doh. I do have about 6 weeks to decide!

There`s a safety issue with RFT`s in my mind.

There`s no way you can drive for upto 150 miles on a flat, I drove 14 miles through the centre of Edinburgh in my E90 at about 15 mph and although the puncture was within the area that Bridgestone say can be repaired on a RFT the sidewalls had given up the ghost and the tyre with 7 mm of tread was useless.

On Thurs last week I had a puncture in my other halfs 118d with RFT and drove about 10-15 miles at about 30-40 mph on country roads, when the mobile tyre guy came to fit new tyres (4x reg tyres) the tyre had started melting at the edges.

Fortunately I've only ever had one total tyre failure many years ago. As it was at about 70 MPH I felt fortunate to get the car to stop in a reasonably straight line. The punctured tyre was destroyed in about 200 yards and the rim became damaged in the process. I would have been happy if I'd had RFTs then and been able to drive 10 miles. We have had one puncture in RFTs but fortunately the tyre didn't completely deflate and we managed another 400 miles before it was replaced.

Regards

Chris

Each to their own. I like the fact it looks different from the masses but not my cup of tea either. I agree on the grip and handling though. When I went to non-rft, the car has totally changed. I've not changed the stock supension yet either! Still a bit concerned re having a blowout and as I've never had one (or a puncture!) in over 15years - I must be due.......
