Found a 335d/Xd Tuner near Toronto

They are called "Engineered Automotive" and are located in Concord, Ontario near Keele/Langstaff just north of the 427. Below is some of the info I've collected through various e-mails with their staff:

Good Morning John,

We are a Renntech dealer and can get all their products, but for any ECU tuning, the ECU does need to be shipped to Renntech in Florida.

Engineered Automotive has developed software for that car in house and can tune it with our own software. The price for our software is on par with Renntech, however we do not need to ship the ECU anywhere, and we also include a pre and post dyno run.

We have seen gains of 65-80 hp at the wheels, which is a huge difference.

We've seen gains of 70-90 torques with our software. It too is a very noticeable improvement.

We've never had any issues with the tune that would lead us to investigate the EGTs.

Also if I'm correct, your 09 car has the diesel exhaust fluid which also cools the EGTs.

There has been 5 of the diesels come through here in the last couple years. All results were great.

Software installed is $1095. There is lifetime warranty on the software.

Let me know if there is anymore information you require, or anything else I can do.

Thanks,
Roy.

P.S. Thanks to cssnms for alerting me to these guys.

Glad to hear they are a shop that can help!

Renntech is no doubt a reputable tuning company. Although I don't think they have tuned a lot of NA spec diesels, otherwise I am sure we would have heard on the boards, not to mention if I am not mistaken Renntech just came out with this tune for our cars back in the 4th qtr 2011, so I am not sure how they coudl have tuned 5 other diesel over the "years," but maybe my dates are wrong or perhaps they introduced the tune earlier in Canada first? Call Renntech and verify.

I know of one owner that is running the Renntech tune, he's on b-i-m-m-e-r-b-o-o-s-t (screen with puerto rico in it I think?) and Bimmerfest (Axel). He loves his tune so far. He did have a couple of issues on the dyno whererby his car went into limp mode, but he seems to be of the belief that it was unrelated to the tune. Not sure if he's had any recurrances on the street or not.

I think Axel saw something like a 60hp gain (no torque figures though) with peak hp around 300hp. You can find his post and dyno on Bimmerfest.

If you really want to know what kind of gains you are getting get that before and after dyno done at another shop, i.e. one that is not selling you the tune. Otherwise if it doesn't really matter to you, just enjoy the new found hp/torque!

I think they are referring to their own tune and not the Renntech one when mentioning that they've tuned five other diesels. Here is the whole part of their email to me:

Ahhh, got it. Check in with Axel on bimmerfest, he's always happy to talk about his Renntech tune.

At the end of the day I think all of these tunes, Renntech, Evolve, Dinan, JBD (i use tune losely with the last one), and the like are all going to produce very similar results. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I hope eventually one or two start to push the envelop a little more e.g provide customers the ability to dial in more turbo boost, because I think these engines and turbos are capable of so much more. However, I think we need someone to first come out with a FMIC to address the issues of heat soak that already plagues our cars when running tunes.

Does anyone know if any of the N54/55 FMICs will work on the N57?

Not yet. There are a couple of people that plan to test fit an aftermarket N54/55 fmic to a d, but until that happens, it's still a mystery.
