Ideal wheel set up for handling?? Staggered or no?

So I am planing to purchase some wheels and I want not only to look good but also handles well for track or curvy driving.

I got two choices:
square setup with 19 x 9.5 20mm with 235/35/19 (Almost the same set up with 22mm instead of 20mm http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=583316)

or 19 x 8.5 35mm, 19 x 10 38mm with 235/35/19 and 275/30/19

which set up should give me better handling for xi? your thoughts?? My car is e92 and also equipped with H&R coil overs if that matters,,

Definitely square for x-drive. Staggered will only increase the understeer.

I'm getting ready to put on 18 x 8.5 with 245/40/18

To combat understeer in their AWD, front-heavy RS3, Audi actually did a "reverse stagger" with 235 in the front and 225 in the back, and has an option for 255 in the front and 225 in the rear, as described in this article

You could do a staggered setup with spacers in the front to counter act some of the understeer.

18 x 8.5 for me, 18" for these rough vt roads and square for improved xi handling.

09 E92 X-Drive for me:
Researched as well and most suggested square setup. The roads in WI are suspect as well so I went with 245/40/17 conti ext contact DWS. Had them installed yesterday. Will go easy on them for a few miles before tossing car around and see how much front grip has improved.

Good luck with your setup.

Mine came staggered stock - love it - ran square in the winter, and much prefer the staggered summer set-up.

I just installed my brand new 19 inch staggered setup and coilovers on my e92 last Sunday and couldn't be happier. Pushed the car pretty hard on a joy ride with one of my buddies this afternoon and really felt the difference. The staggered setup feels great and looks great. Haven't noticed any significant under steer yet. Good luck!

I figured it would be, that's a good setup for handling.......I didn't want to run spacers so I just got a 30mm offset front & back. I'm used to the understeer now, been running it for 2 years now.

I half jokingly mentioned that I've thought about doing this with my stock staggered setup. I bet I'd pull a faster autox time with the stagger backwards.

Edit: from the above Audi article: "The test car was fitted with an optional combo of 255 front, 225 rear." Interesting!

For those of you that haven't experienced understeer with a staggered setup: you either don't know what understeer feels like or you're not driving fast enough.

I am staggered during summer and squared during winters... Not much of a difference and for all the talk about understeer, it saves your life since most people on here are not professional drivers! I know street racing gives you the feeling that you are but on the track you are far from it lol. My car is an x drive, it came staggered and it handles fine either way!

True, damn right about the understeer being safe. Especially on changing road conditions.

I run staggered and it really is slight difference. IMO the square is a better set-up, but my staggered look is really aggressive. The only time I really notice a big difference is in freeways that have big ruts my car really wants to run off the road.
