Question CD Changer?

I requested (and received) the full purchase spec of my car from the dealership today (purely out of interest) and on it is preparation for cd changer... But no cd changer, which is a little strange...

Anyone know if it's a sensibly priced thing to retrofit and whether there are third party ones etc that will do the job?

I did wonder why the 8 buttons were under the cd drive - completely redundant at the mo and I'm still a fan of CDs so might as well look into it

I've just checked, and the wording is "Provisions for BMW 6 CD changer" - however there are 8 buttons??

If yours is anything like mine, those eight buttons arent there specifically for a changer, you can program them to do anything you like.

For example, i have my favourite radio stations on 1-6, if i press 7 it automatically phones home and 8 sets my nav to home address.

Also, if you just run your finger over the button without actually pressing it it will show you on the idrive screen what the button is currently programmed to do.

Hope that helps you a bit

and somebody with more knowledge may correct me but i don't think its just a matter of you fitting the changer, believe it requires programming so the car knows its there.

Well bugger me.

We need some sort of sticky hints and tips thread for stuff like that... how many more things can I do that I do don't know about?

Found out the other day that if you hold one of the idrive directions, it goes to the last interface... e.g. hold east for a while and it flicks straight to the last used view etc

A friend of mine had the cd changer fitted afterwards and I think Victoria BMW charged him 300 notes didnt think that was too bad!

I would try going to get a quote from an independent car audio centre (not halfords) as well!
