More Cars Being Stolen
Im sure you are all aware how easy it is to steal these modern BMW's with a key programmer,
Where I work alone people know of friends and families whose cars have been stolen with just smashed glass found in place of the car (so far 3 cars of people I know in the london area) I want to know has anyone made any modifications to prevent this? One idea was to re-locate the OBD port so the thieving b@stards cant find it, another one i heard was to disconnect the port completely (both these ideas wont prevent the glass from being smashed) My boss at work simply invested in a steering lock which i would have assumed could be a good deterrent. Blackjax is another option which i was considering, If it carries on like this all BMW owners will be hit by an insurance premium hike due to the cars being more prone to theft! Bloody annoying but BMW obviously aint doing anything about it even though its their fault for leaving vital coding information in the ecu readable. Rant over lol |

Speak to Cooks Ferry Engineering on 0208 8042002.
Let them know you have a Beemer with push button start and you want the obd protection, and an explanation of what's involved. Costs £95 all in. If I lived in London I would deffo invest. On a side not mate, nothing will prevent the glass bieng smashed. |

Some friends of ours have an M3 Coupe about six months old. They've got two scrotes on CCTV walking up to it on their drive, pulling a fob out of their pocket, opening the doors and having a good rummage round nicking a laptop and some other stuff that was in the boot. The gate was across so I'm guessing that's why they didn't nick the car but I can't imagine they're sleeping well at the moment.

Why not leave some coffee and biscuits too, maybe some cash in an envelope under the wipers while they're at it! |

Its probably as easy as it ever was, even without the tech solution.
All you need is a bent bugger in the service bay of any garage. And of course, pretty much all new cars go through there don't they?

Look up brake lock.......thats what I have and they could still take it but it would slow them down. It also works better on the clutch if you have one.

I reckon having a disklok would put crooks off enough to go find another one that will be easier to take.
After all, these type of crooks dont want to be angle grinding a lock off....they just want a nice clean getaway. |

During my VAG days, we used to disable the ECUs via the REVO SPS when parked up. This prevented the car being started at all, it's a shame REVO don't tune BMW. You've all got to realise, we've got at least £15k's worth (in the most part) of asset sitting there, unsecured mostly, with wheels on it ready for someone to take it away. It's much easier to steal a car than raid a house most often so why not take the easy route, for a good return on 'resale' at that. It makes me thankful at least that we have a big gate and garage at our new home.

Spoke to a few alarm installers recently and kind of hit a brick wall.
The latest installer replied "any upgraded system has to pass through the vehicles can bus system and can be deactivated through the obd port in exactly the same way as the OEM set up. You can fit an aftermarket immobiliser to isolate the starter motor only but thieves are aware of this and vehicles are easily push started". About time BMW realised how easily these cars were being stolen!

Some things I have learned that can be done to slow a theif down
Starter kill Hood & Trunk pins so the alarm will go off when they open them Add a second alarm speaker Get a brake/clutch lock Quick release steering wheel Glass break sensor Tilt sensor Most of this stuff is already on the car with the stock alarm but if they want it they will take it no matter what you do. |

You would think these days you could fit an immobiliser in a secondary system not using can-bus which bypasses the obd port weakness and cuts power to the car
