Blackstone Oil Analysis - Posted Results
Anyone else get their own oil analyzed from Blackstone Labs? I originally used them because I was skeptical about BMW's recommended oil change interval of 20,000 km's. Anyways I did it near 10,000 km's and here are my last two results. Enjoy!
Anyone else wanna share their results? I would be curious to see what other N52's get, with what oil and interval. Last edited by Volasko; 04-03-2012 at 10:58 PM.. |

Why were you using 5W-40 for 2011 vs. 5W-30 for 2012?
And what's a 'Km' ? We use Miles here Apparently they are also confused, as their report shows 'MI/Hr on Oil 12000' & 'MI/Hr on Unit 121500', yet in their comments they refer to these as 12000Km/121500 Km. They transposed the units in both reports. They must have had a hand in the programming of that Mars Lander that crashed due to someone confusing metric system for U.S. Std system Seriously though, results look pretty good.

The main thing is to look at is any abnormal fluids or high counts of a particular metal. Comparing it to the averages you can see everything looks normal. The TBN number actually costs more to have analyzed but tells you how much life is left in the oil. I wanted to know how long you can actually safely go on an oil change, turns out 15,000 km's isn't too unrealistic.
The first set of oil (5W-40) was from a BMW indy shop that uses Liqui Moly oil. The 2nd was from the dealer. So far both oils look the same. |
