JB4 or COBB for 335is?

I'm thinking of getting a tune for my 335is. However, I don't plan on getting any other mods, so if I'm getting a COBB I'm only going to running map 1. With a stock 335is, how much HP gain would I be looking at for each?

JB4 ^_^. But I hear if you call cobb, They will tell you that JB4 is bad for your car because it messes with sensors... Then they will ask you where do you want your cobb shipped.

Don’t waste your money... You have a 335is so putting a Cobb or a JB4 on your car won’t do much for your already sick performance. Anyway, if you want future options of a true PWM Meth and Single Turbo performance, you should just go with the Procede v3, don’t look back and enjoy life. I got the upgrade bug and now I have the Procede 2.5 with 3” charge pipe w/PWM Meth kit, DCI, 7” HPF FMIC, and VRSF DPs. I’m making 420 RWHP on 92 pump gas with 70/30 meth.

My dynos show pure stock with just a JB4 on old Map2 (93 octane) the car went from a factory 314whp to 365whp with no bolt-ons.

The new (released this week) 335IS specific Map 6, 93 octane or better required, has improved performance with higher boost across the board especially in the 2500/5000rpm range. Again with no bolt-ons. Don’t know how much, not yet been dynoed, but there is a very noticeable seat of the pants improvement. Also my speed at a marked distance test area in Mexico has increased. I have an ETS 5” FMIC in shipping with the brown truck expected on the 10th.

I don’t expect to get much additional power out of it but do expect hold what I have in the Carolina summer. This will be my only power mod outside the JB4 itself. The car was already quicker then a V8 M3 on the original JB4 Map so the new setup should be just about perfect for my requirements. The JB4’s with FBO/Meth are dominant at the 1/4 mile but my main interest is no longer at the track. Used to live within a few miles of Englishtown but am now far enough away from Rockingham that I will only be making an occasional trip.

For $505 with a laptop hookup the JB4 a very good package. For a no physical install system Cobb, also an excellent system, is the best choice. The killer app is a JB4 sitting on top of a Cobb flash.

Get the JB4, and I am not biased because I have other tune (but I suppose no one wants my kind of tune install). I have seen what the JB4 can do, I have seen many logs and dynos. It's cheaper and very reliable, it will bring no nasty surprises.

Is your car a lease? If so, I'd get the Cobb for the ease of install and worry free servicing. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with either one. JB4 is a better option for meth users, if you ever decide to go that route.

thanks for posting this, I didn't realize how much of a gain from just a JB4 with a 335is. Great gains! definately worth every penny.

I was never comfortable with a tune that can't change timing appropriately for increased boost. That being said, it looks like jb4 has been successful at avoiding any engine failures, so the ecu must be able to handle the timing enough to prevent problems. I still went with cobb for that reason, though... And Cobb will soon have meth.

Not sure if this response is serious...but from everything I've seen, heard, read, etc, Terry and Robb have a pretty good and respectful relationship.

Do you want a comprehensive reflash or a signal modifier? One is a tune, and one is a patch. There's a reason Cobb is more, they had to crack the dme's programming and tuner lock out in order to have complete control over the dme logic. Thats something you'll have to pay for. Piggybacks don't tune the car, period. The make the dme misinterpret the signals they need to generate power.
You bought an expensive car, you can afford to do it right. That's all I'm gonna say.

+1. I can definitely vouch for the added power from the new map 6 on the 335is. All I have is the JB4 and DCI. I went from running 12.9s to 12.5s. Yesterday I got on the interstate with a friend with a 07 335i with JB4 and I used to maybe put a car on him 60-130. I put about 3-4 cars on him yesterday, same cars. Huge difference.

is the new map 6 really only for 93 octane or better? where i live i only get 91 octane... so will this new map not work for me?

Its a 93+ Map just like Map7 is a race gas Map. The rest of the Maps are also for the IS but I believe the jump is not so pronounced. Map5 will still give you the best you can get for your gas.

The firmware has three settings N55, N54, N54IS & each has its own series of Maps.

Its also my understanding that Terry & Robb have cooperated on a number of issues with guys running JB4 piggybacks over Cobb Flashes. I would think if anyone is taking shots its most likely fansbois or 3rd party vendors.

Personally i like COBB and have used the procede as well .Both work well.
COBB doesnt have gauge hijacking which is awesome.
If you want the guages get JB4 or Procede.

You really cant make a bad decision here. I dont know of any tune related engine failure.
