Pic request - diff housing on diesel E9x

I'm having a minor issue with a resonance/harmonic sound at around 40mph under certain specific load conditions since having a Quaife and M3 subframe bushes fitted (see this thread for the details). I'm contemplating fitting the vibration absorber from one of the diesel models to my diff to see if this makes any difference, but I've no idea how this fits on. You can see it on RealOEM: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...40&hg=33&fg=05.

I was wondering if someone with a diesel E9x would mind grabbing me a couple of photos of the rear cover of their diff to see if I can spot the part in question and work out how it attaches? It'd save me peering under the next E9x I see in a car park and getting some funny looks in the process!

Many thanks in advance.

I've wondered about that. On the US side, one guy with the same problem has swapped his complete diff assembly, propshaft and exhaust with another 335i and the noise has persisted, so that only leaves the wheel bearings, but Kevin's heard mine and is insistent it's not a wheel bearing. Mine's only really noticeable between about 35 and 45mph accelerating in a high gear, which seems like an odd load range for wheel bearings to be noisy?

Sorry Sean

Just been under mine on the drive, and it's near on impossible to get a picture of anything meaningful.
All you can see is the drain plug - everything else is surrounded by exhausts and bracing - there is a structural member immediately behind the diff, with bars coming forward triangulating with the front of the rear sills (looks like an afterthought actually!). Perhaps this is specific to the Touring?? Plus with having two exhausts, it's quite cramped.
