Diagnostic Software for E90
Its been a long time since I dabled in the world of coding and fault finding. Going back about 8 years to when I have a VAG.
So slightly out of date, can anyone recomend good easy to obtain software that would allow me to run diagnostic on the car and check for fault codes. Thanks

It really depends on what you want to do?
If you plan to do any coding then you'll have you buy an INPA cable. This will also do some error code reading, but it's not as user friendly to use and getting the install right can be tricky. See this thread as well. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666235 There is a coding section on the board that may give you a better idea of what INPA is. If you are just looking to read error codes and run some logging, then a BT cable is probably the way to go. There a couple of versions and since you are fairly local to me I could probably demostrate the BT cable so you have an idea of what you are buying. http://www.bavariantechnic.com/buy.aspx |

BT cable here, does it all including ability to read and adjust (in percent) ALL of the variable servicing dates
I use it a lot, even when fitting new brake pads I can set up the wear sensors, and adjust MOT dates etc. It will also read all codes in plain english. It will datalog live many parameters. You can control and run hundreds of functions for testing, from water pumps to dash lamps. Neat. Steve

If you just want to read error codes and see various parameters in real time then Ive found the Android app "Torque" works well on my Galaxy S2 phone via blue tooth to a generic OBD dongle from ebay. Total cost about £30.
Works on our Skoda and Matiz too.

The "Enthusiast" BT cable appears limited to three cars by VIN??

I have one that shipped with the JB3 and its locked to my car only. There is another pro option with unlimited licences too I believe.

Dont go for that. It is very basic. It will only read your codes, if and when engine light is on.
