No sound?
Have a 2008 328i w/ the hi-fi sound system - atleast I believe it is this, I have the subs under my front seats but no center console speaker.
My question and concern is this: twice in the last 2 weeks, I went to start my car and well, no sound from the radio. Everything works fine - change to cd/radio/flip through radio stations, just no sound from the speakers - I would turn the system on and off with no help - the only thing that "reset" it was turned the car OFF, AND taking the key OUT. did that, and both times the radio sound came right back on. Now i did search and this seems to be somewhat a common failure? something with the amp fuse going out? I ALWAYS listen to music in my car and need the sound... what do I need to do to fix this? and/or prevent it from happening again? or my biggest fear, it going out completely and never coming back on? I am out of factory warranty, but am still covered under CPO - which, I dont think covers the radio which is kinda BS.

Have you checked your battery
The IBS (INfernal Battery System, its suppose to be intelligent ) has the ability to shut stuff down if the battery is weak. Low battery problems are pretty common if the car isn't getting a lot of use or some highway miles in non traffic jam conditions to recharge the battery. A lot of people buy a battery tender.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...opb_aGonuNX2vA The list 1)Check battery voltage is a place to start then a load test also you can look at the glass eye indicator on the battery. If you have a bad one there are many threads on how and where to get one or replace it without having to pay over 500 bucks. 2) The amp could be bad also check fuses for the same but I don't think it would come back on at all if a fuse was blown. 3)Radio bad or lost programming not as likely but there have been cases of this. |

Thanks... where did you get that PDF of the electronics for the E90? My car is actually getting inspected today, but when I get it back I will check the battery charge. ...i assume the "glass eye indicator" on the batt is pretty staright forward?

I disconnected the battery Waited about a minute Connected it back SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanked God! These were my other symptoms. head unit fan blowing, no Bluetooth connect, everything seemed to work but sound, loud spark when battery disconnect, 57 degrees F when sound stopped after 15 minutes of driving. The day before I Played the stereo loud for a few minutes. Played an MP3 disk for the first time. Connected my phone to the aux jack for the first time. Tested the DCS in the parking lot.
