Doors blown off by RS4

I know, I know--I have a 328i, why did I even try, right? Well, in my own defense, I had no idea that this was an RS4 until it was waaaaaay too late, and I had been sufficiently humbled.

I had spent the weekend in Indianapolis and was heading back towards Chicago in the early evening hours. For those of you that are familiar, I was a little north of Lafayette on I65 when this went down.

So I had worked my way through some traffic and finally had some open road in front of me as I headed north. I might have been going 80 or so, I can't really remember. So these Xenon lights come zooming up on my ass, and a quick glance tells me its an Audi. I thought it was an A4, but since it was behind me, I could not tell exactly what I was dealing with.

So I sped up a little and slowed down a little and this guy stayed right with me--and as I said, there was open road in front of me and no cars in sight. Thus I dropped it into 4th and punched the gas, thinking I would give this 1.8T something to think about. I put a few car lengths distance between us and I was starting to smile, like heh heh right?

Wrong--this guy stayed in my blind spot till we were around 100--then he pulls right next to me--I look over and see the "V8" emblem on the side, and I think oooooh fuck! So he smiles at me (there are four people in his car, only me in mine, making this even worse) and he punches it. I am already running flat out and by the time my 328i makes it to about 115, he has to have 20-25 car lengths on me. I cannot BELIELVE how easily he pulled away--I mean I knew instantly he had just been playing with me, but holy shit, that thing can MOVE! He was just gone--I actually looked down at my speedometer to make sure I was still moving....

I'm not sure if this was a B7 RS4 or not, but I think so. I have seen some videos of this car killing an E46 M3 in straight line speed--and I think I saw a little of what that car can do. I hope the E92 M3 comes to bat with a lot--because that car was really impressive.

Oh yeah, so I eventully caught up with these guys and they were laughing at the look on my face--I yelled out the window that it was hardly fair--kind of like bringing a potato gun to a machine gun fight. They had F1 stuff in the car, so I am guessing they had come from the F1 race in Indy today. At least I supplied them with some entertainment....

Yeah, I did mean 1.8 or 2.0T--those are the majority of A4s that I see. And he came up on me so fast I had no time to look for anything to distinguish him from a normal A4. I mean, I can tell an M3 is coming up on me from the front of the car only, but that was the first RS4 I had seen in person. Sheesh, it was funny...

Chrome mirrors might be an S4 too; with the RS4 you just gotta hope you know the front fascia and it's not some S4 with an RS4 bumper. Not a lot to tell em apart.

What a jerk, pickin on you like that

RS4's are nice, but at 4000lbs, way too heavy to be considered a true performance car IMO.

The Veyron is 4200lbs. does that mean it's not a true performance car? I guess it may sorta make up for it by having a quad turbocharged W16.

It was fun, even though I was smoked. It put a huge smile on my face, and I had to admire the RS4 for being the beast that it was supposed to be.

Honesty

Thanks for being honest....nice story.

No worries, RS4's will get some humble pie with the new M3.

True, but the E90 isn't considered a performance car the way the RS4 is. What's the base weight on the new M3? Isn't it like 3500lbs? I think that's close at least. Not a lightweight car by any means, but 500lbs is huge.

Veyron is a GT car, weight isn't as important for high speed cruising.

And yeah, 16 cylinders and 4 turbos do wonders for extra fat
