Exclamation Lamborghini Aventador on FIRE (literally)

So Im on my way to the long beach GP with a friend heading northbound on the 73 toll road, and we spot a black aventador passing us heading southbound. Right as it passes us a HUGE fire erupts in the engine bay. We instantly get off at the next exit, turn around catch up to the scene, and watch it burn to the ground.

They suspect it was from an oil leak

Whatever it's worth maybe I should have an extinguisher under my seat!

yeah it was a dealer car, there was another white e92 m3 at the scene with plates that read "M3 GURU"...he captured the whole thing on his go pro.

A frd of mine said all the Italian exotics are meant to be lightly used once in a while and if you are to daily drive them, they will burn you like a ribeye on red hot grill. And I think that is true now.

im sure there's some validity in italian exotics' reputation for being temperamental, but they've come a long way in terms of reliability and user-friendliness (arguably due to the NSX). for lamborghini in particular, having audi as its parent company was a huge leap forward.

have you seen this?

wow - luckily the guy got out.

While I'm sure there's a good explanation for the fire....really?!?....should I have to worry about spontaneous combustion in a car I might have bought for close to $500k?

With that, I'd still buy an Aventador tomorrow if I could haha.

Probably--if you look at the first picture after the video clip, you can see a trail of what's probably leaked oil on the pavement. Maybe a big oil leak burned on the hot exhaust manifold(s)?

+1 on glad driver okay

Another supercar on fire. I'm sensing a trend. Those rear engines seem to run so damn hot!! What a shame for such an awesome car.

I bet when that guy saw the smoke and flame his heart skipped a beat.

There is no doubt that they all came a long way in terms of reliability especially the lambos. In the past an angry bull with that much power would already murder its owner when taking turns at slightly higher speed before the fire can even start.

I am a big Lamborghini fan and like most of others will agree, even if the beast tries to kill me, I still love it unconditionally. Though, the only time I will buy one in this life is probably with a jackpot lotto winning ticket.

In reality, I am hoping of getting a 911(997 or 991 don't matter) and drive it across north American. I really want this to be done within the next few years before my health sets limitations.
