Stett CAI install
I bought a Stett CAI for my '07 e90 335i. I came with no instructions. Do I have to remove my headlight washer to get the filter to fit? I am having troubles getting this wrapped up. The filter is getting mangled down there by the back side of the foglight, headlight washer housing and the brake duct. Even jamming it in there it is still not fitting. Any ideas, or anyone with a pdf of the instructions?
Thanks- Isaac |

The directions that come with the kit are not worth the paper they are printed on.

I had mine installed by another member and he also concurred that, though the intake was good. The instructions stink, at best. They are generic in their illustrations despite the fact each elbow has a different bend and length. The instructions literally have the same lengths and angles despite the fact that they are not. One would think when you spend that amount of money, they would take some time to give you an accurate illustration for that install.

I got it in there, but there isn't any clearance between the lower pipe and the fender liner. I have no bulge, but it touches the fender liner and barely touches a lower plastic cover on the backside of the headlight. I attached some high density padding on both the fender side and the spot it touches the headlight for vibration. I adjusted it over and over, but this is as good as it got on my car. Nice piece, just needs a bracket or something to help with the positioning/stabilization IMO. I think I am going to weld one to the lower pipe and attach it to the frame with a self tapper.

Yeah they say they have an instruction manual but really it just a poor excuse for a parts list. I had the same issue everything was way to tight rubbing against the alternator and other parts. Plus they didn't mention I needed to remove a frame brace on the car where the tubing would go to the bottom left fender! Ridiculous!! Me and my friends decided it was enough..great idea but poorly executed IMO on there part.
Not to mention when it first came in they didn't even have all the parts in the box. I had to wait another week for the rest of the parts. I took it all off and put my stock stuff back on and I sent it back. To me I paid enough money to not run in these problems.. I'll probably do a mr.5 intake now.

I swear I saw a thread from another member stating he was able to fit the pipe around the brace without Having to remove it?
Is this possible? I have an E93 and heard the brace has to be cut...not something I really wanna do on my expensive car. |

From what I heard E93 and E92 are different in fitment...or at lest when I called them they told me it was different for those...they went aware of it...yeah right!

Yeah, I got my Stett CAI right before the group buy took place, and I was less then impressed. I received no instructions at all to tell you which pipe goes where and in what direction. So you pretty much have to guess and try different combinations until you find which way it fits better. I tried every combination possible and I have to say, out of the box the fitment sucks! I ended up trimming some of the pipes to get it to fit right. The fitment of the pipes out of the box, puts a pretty good strain on the 90* silicone elbow, slightly kinking it, as if the pipe isn't bent sharp enough to make it down to the fender. And if you don't rotate the main Y-pipe towards the strut tower, that 90* silicone elbow will hit the backside of hood. And even if you do that, you still have to slide the 90 degree elbow down as far as it will go onto pipe for hood clearance, and when you do that, you can clearly see that the pipe sticks up at least 1" past the 90 degree bend inside the elbow... Obviously that can't be good for air flow hitting that pipe as it goes through the elbow, so I trimmed about 1" off that pipe! Then you also have to remove the fender brace to get clearance for the pipe to enter the fender well. And the filter is a very snug fit in the fender... Placing the filter in the only spot I could get it to fit, I actually had to cut about 2" off the pipe the filter attaches too, otherwise that 2" would have been inside the air filter, again obviously not good for the airflow into the pipe IMO.
So yeah, IMO it sure isn't worth $400, but there really isn't much else out there for a true CAI. I sure wish I had the time, tools and material to build my own stuff, because I can find flaws in just about everything I've bought, for all the cars that I've owned... and I've heavily modified my last 6 cars! Its crazy what some of these manufacturers make off this stuff that doesn't even fit right 75% of the time!

Yes I had a custom white version 2. Terrible, it blows my mind the send that "instruction manual" they really need to improve on that. Also create a version 3 that actually requires not cutting or removal of any brace...I wish I would of done more research before buying it.
