Yeah I figured that....People are selling these tokens which in essence is like the FSW_PSW.man profiles which you can code but for NCS it didnt require these tokens to access that. I will wait to see but I aint paying for any tokens.

You need an EST token which is like a developer digital signature.
Without it you can only edit VO# but not update. You only need one but people are selling them for $$$. It's ridiculous. The same reason we do not do F series yet and probably won't. |

An EST token is a digital signature required by E-Sys in order to modify non-standard settings of a VO. Without a token, you can only change VO options (like official retrofitting) but can't change individual options of a module.
Most of the EST tokens available for sale are sold along with modified versions of E-Sys that will accept these tokens, in essence cracked versions of E-Sys. Real EST tokens are easily traceable back to the person they were issued to and would result in termination of that employee if they were to share their token to the outside world (real EST tokens are issued to BMW Engineering personnel). Alot of the people that produce these cracked EST tokens actually put in alot of time to develop and test these solutions. If they want to be paid for their work, more power to them and that's their choice. Also there's ongoing maintenance that's usually done with E-Sys and you would require newer versions of the cracked installer to use with your EST token as time progresses. A single version of E-Sys is only compatible with certain versions of the ISTA/P data, so as the ISTA/P versions continue to advance, you'll need newer and newer versions of the cracked E-Sys installer to continue doing work. That takes time and effort, for some of these guys, this is how they make their living. Sometimes people's sense of entitlement is amazing to me. Especially for some others that I've seen that sell coding services and then complain because software like E-Sys costs so much to get a token (Grant, don't take this as directed to you from your previous post, it's not, just an observation in general from a large number of forums I'm a member of). It's like offering services as a mechanic and then complaining that Sears wants to charge you for a torque wrench. There's alot of people out there that simply resell other's hard work without giving credit or compensation. But there's a few people out there who make amazing solutions, like: - darksys and his ICOM emulator software - gkoukou and his excellent integrated ISID solution (which is ISTA/D and ISTA/P on a single laptop without VMWare, with full printing support, ICOM registration without ISIS server, WiFi support for official ICOMs, automatic ICOM firmware support, etc, etc.) which I use on a regular basis - patrys who perform alot of retrofitting and has discovered how to load FSC codes using BMW Standard Tools and has (I believe it's patrys or his partner MEN) developed a tool for loading FSCs into vehicles and generating NavMap FSC codes They all put ALOT of time into reverse engineering, writing custom code, testing it and sometimes killing modules (which gets expensive). They should be paid for their efforts and time, especially when it's how they make their living in alot of cases. Eventually everything that people currently charge for will eventually be out in the open for everyone for free. It just takes time. If you guys really want E-Sys with a token, try contacting one of the sellers and arranging a group buy on a token that you can share. It was done over at the b************* forums several months back. It wound up costing everyone around $60 and everyone got a copy of E-Sys 3.18.4 and an EST token to use (it was one token shared by everyone). |

Just some of the outrageous asking prices from people reselling (hundreds). Totally missed the group buy That's my gripe. I've seen quotes higher than the original seller's asking for software. So until that changes E series it is. And we still charge less than the cable costs in the first place so I'm not one of the people making a living from coding Plus I help DIYers as much as I possibly can which I'm sure everyone here can appreciate. Good post Dracon. No offense taken |
