Dilemma...
I ordered a 328xi coupe a month ago, delivery date end of July, and now I'm having second thoughts. I'm already paying so much for a 328xi, add another 5 grand I can get a 335i twin turbo. The thing is the area I live is pretty snowy during the winter so I figured that AWD would be more suitable for me. But after reading in forums, people are saying that 335+winter tires perform better in snow than AWD+all season tires. Another thing is that the 335 is a whole new level with the dual exhausts, twin turbo, extra horsepower and I'm only paying another 5 grand for all that. I guess the deciding factor is the wait time, I've already waited more than a month now they said if I upgrade to the 335 I have to wait til the end of August!!. This wait is already killing me, I don't know if I can wait another 2 months versus a month for 328xi. HARD DECISIONNN... should I stick with the 328xi or wait another month for 335i??
I just felt like taking that out, thanks for listening. |

I waited 6 months for my 335, and it was worth the wait...actually when I finally got mine, I wasn't really excited. I guess the wait just wore me out...but it is a nice ride. I would never buy anything less now after I drove my 335.

Get neither and buy yourself a good pair of snowshoes.

Get the e92 335xi and you're good to go. You get the TT engine + AWD.
![]() And for the ones that don't think it's available yet, it is.

I had a similar dilemma after ordering a 328i vert and then test drove a 335i a month into my wait for the 328 (it was too late to change the order.) I ended up not taking delivery of the 328 and ordered a 335 vert. I'm glad I did. The wait is very annoying but one I can do since my current car is owned and there was no issue with timing of not having a car. I might have kept the 328 if I was just going to lease for a few years, but I am buying and decided a couple months wait is far better than years of feeling short changed. The 328 is a nice engine, but if you love performance, have the funds, and plan on doing some mods the 335 is the way to go. The aftermarket attention on the 335 engine alone is very exciting and one that is certain to develop over the coming years.
Good luck in your decision.

Might as well wait and get the e92 335xi. Probably should be able to order one in a month or 2 and have it in October. Just in time for the snowy season.

FWIW I have a 335i coupe. I've been through one Iowa winter (with snow tires). You won't have any problem getting around. Of course, a 335xi will be better. Either will be more fun than a 328xi or 328i. My 335i has never had one problem.

I say go for the car that you will be satisfied with both in terms of performance and budget.
For me, the 328i would accomplish this... maybe for you it is different? |

It's out already. I forgot which dealership had one, but I know it's out.

If stability in the snow is a huge deal just get a X3 or X5. Otherwise RWD is substantial. Also to answer the OP's question. How long are you going to own the vehicle for? If for a long time then maybe get the 335. If not why not get the 328 mess around with the substantial amount of power and then upgrade later when some of the 335's bugs are fixed etc.

Re-read what the OP said. He said that RWD + winter tires is better than AWD + all-seasons. And as someone who has both an AWD and a RWD vehicle that are driven in upstate NY winters, I agree with that. AWD helps you start; it doesn't help you stop or turn. Winter tires DO help you stop and turn. If it comes down to it, I'd rather be able to stop and turn than get started. AWD w/snow tires is better than all of the above, but in 99.9% of winter driving conditions, a RWD vehicle with snow tires is completely adequate.

how can you not like the 335 better once you drive it... I mean.. it doesn't even compare! But, that's my opinion. Get what YOU want. Is 5 grand worth the upgrade... I say yes!!

You are probably referring to the e90 sedan. It is out in the 335xi flavor. The e92 335xi coupe is due out in the fall as an 08.
