Non RFTs on OEM wheels?
Ok, tire dealer says I can use non-RFTs on my 328xi, but he suggests I buy aftermarket rims as the "BMW rims were made for run flats and the bead on a regular tire won't seat well on the rim and could be dangerous." True, or BS to get me to spend more?

I run non-rft's on my stock 189s without problems for 3 years. Both summer and winter tires without any issues.

I've run non-RFT winters on my 17" OEM wheels for five years without problems.
And I've never read about any problems with non-RFT tires on OEM wheels.

Same tune
Just had a second chain (Firestone) tell me their corporate folks do not allow them to replace RFTs with nonRFTs.
Unfortunately, it seems that all the local stores who can change runflats (most claim they cannot) have policies against replacing them with non-RFTs. |

Where do you live where they are all nazis? When I was asking around about switching mine, not a single shop said anything about not doing it for that reason.

RFT TIRES...
Hi Guys... That Is Not True. The Only Reason Bmw Uses Rft Tires In Some Models Is Because They Dont Use A Spare Tire On The Trunk And You Can Drive The Vehicle With A Flat Tire For 60miles At No More Than 50 Mph. And Obviosly It Gives You More Stability On The Road Due To Tire Structure. So Feel Free To Chose And Install Your Prefered Tire Everytime It Be The Right Size.
Im Tech And I Understand That Not All People Wanna Spend $300 Bucks On A Tire, If All Others BRANDS AND MODELS Works As It Supposed To. |

I have been running non-run-flat winters on BMW rims on two differen 3 series for 5 winters without problems. Just put my new non-run-flat Michelin super sport summers on. (which are great!). Tire guys had no problems, but did make sure I knew that I had no spare and printed "non-run-flat" on the invoice.

Dealer is blowing smoke, and places that won't swap tires for you are listening to their liability lawyers, who basically would love to disclaim ANY liability at all for anything they do to your car.
Stock rims are fine for conventional tires, in fact you might take note that the M3, which does not come with runflats, has some of the same OEM rim choices as other 3-series... |

Since Firestone will not sell you a non-RFT either, I suggest you go to Tirerack.com, select and order your tires and use one of their recommended installers in your area. Tom |

Then, after you get your new tires installed, go back to the Firestone dealer and thank him for not selling you the tires you wanted. |
