Pictures from inside a rolled fender - anyone have one?
Looking to get a fender roll and I want to see what the inside of an e92's fender looks like when properly rolled.
I just want to make sure that when the job is being done it's being done right and I want to know what to expect ahead of time. This way I can watch as the job is being done and know if it's being done right. I've seen a couple e92's where the point at which the fender meets the rear bumper just looks HORRIBLE and deformed, I'm definitely hoping I can get 5-8mm worth of extra space without having my fender look like that.

Would be nice to see before/after of the outside too. I have read up about some cracking/peeling of the paint.

A lot of people also look for chipping from the outside of the paint, a lot of the damage occurs inside the well and at the bottom edge. This allows for metal to be exposed on the inside of the wheel well. I don't know too many people who reach inside to wash either so this is good place for crap to build up and for the exposed metal to eventually begin to start rusting up. I plan to just hit the inside of the wheel well with a rough DIY paintjob since no one's gonna see it anyway. I might even just take some leftover touchup paint I have and just roughly slap it on everywhere on the inside lip.

I also am friends with a guy who's fairly reputable for rolling fenders and could set you up with a steal of a price. Just throwing that out there incase you're not sure of anybody you would trust in your local area.

I'd be interested to see pics of peeps who cut their fenders instead...then there's no need to worry about chipped paint or a deformed fender because you're not effecting the integrity of the fender at all.
I wish BMW just did this to begin with. My bro's '08 G35 has ZERO inner fender lip in the rear straight from the factory lol jealousy |

Fender rolling is a DIY in my opinion. Just spend the money and buy an Eastman fender rolling tool and a heat gun, it's easy. Heat the fenders up well before you roll and no paint crackly. Should be no deforming because you are only flattening the inner lip, not actually bowing out the fender. Ive done it on two prior E60's and had no issues.

I don't think my pictures would show anything so I guess the guy did a good job. And he DEF had to "Pull" mine out at least 5-8mm. And my bumper still lines up. But I'm rubbing on the inside of my bumper where it meets the fender. That's why I posted earlier but noone has responded. Noone ever mentioned anything about this part that I've seen.
My fender clears no problem. All I know is that I'm not even running an aggressive stance yet I needed pulling and my bumper still rubs. That's why you need seriously stretched tires to do this aggressive at all...

I've been fender rolling for years. This is my own E90. A proper fender roll has little to no distinction from the exterior. I have a couple mm flare, but you can't even tell because the roller maintains the factory radius. The lip on the inside is just rolled/bent up towards the outer fender.

I rolled my rear fenders a couple of weeks ago.
What you should look for: 1) Make sure the guy who's rolling the fenders does it little by little with the tool. (not sure how to explain it) Basically he should adjust the tool accordingly and take his time. 2) Make sure he's using a heat gun to heat the paint = this is necessary to avoid cracking the paint 3) Once it's done, you can feel the part that's rolled. You'll know if a good job has been done if it is nice and smooth. You can also visually see if the paint has been cracked. The key to rolling fenders is heating the paint (but obviously not too much) and taking the time to roll it properly little by little. Hope that helped in anyway ? lol |

That's a good job. I have rolled hundreds of fenders and find BMW rears to be tough to get perfect due to the two bend design of the sheet metal. Depending on how much room is needed I will sometimes cut them first down to one bend then roll flat. Never had a problem with the structural integrity of the fenders doing it this way.
