Anyone on here actually got a remap on their 330d LCI?
Morning!
I know that there aren't many places that can do this job (ASFAIK) but there must be some forum members that have been to P-torque or maybe Evolve (I think they can also now do this engine?) that can comment on their experience? People seem to be remapping left right and centre on older 330ds so with the LCI now being out more than 3 years, I'd be surprised if non of the enthusiasts on here have taken the plunge! ![]()

I have an LCI but won't do it yet due to warranty.
I made enquiries and it seems most of the 'regular' tuners will do it but it is ECU out ... DMS were the dearest I spoke to but seemed to understand the car more when talking to them - might just have been the bloke on the end of the phone but he was very helpful and open with info ... he volunteered that BMW will hook the car up to diagnostics when it's with them and the machine automatically connects to Germany. He said the computer compares certain files and will be able to tell if they have been altered, etc + the computer automatically puts a marker on the BMW system to the effect it has been modified. I know this has been talked about before but this is the first time I have had this info from a remapper ... and voluntarily given too !! I was impressed at their honesty ... just not so the £800 price ![]() I may well use them as they are reputable and straight with me. I just won't be using them until after my warranty ends ! |

I think P-torque claim about 290 bhp on my engine, although that seems to be about the same as on pre-lci cars so who knows. I'm sure 290 would be plenty anyway..... until I got used to it and wanted more!
Very interesting to hear a tuner saying the BMW can easily tell if a car is remapped. This is a subject that always divides opinion.

BW chiptune can do this.
They did a non encrypted 330d last week and got it to over 300bhp and more impressively 550 ft/lb or torque for a whole 1500 revs ![]() On the other side he's doing my encrypted 335d next week or the week after. You need to connect to the ECU directly rather than via OBD which adds an hours labour on but it's otherwise just the same job. I'll post a review and dyno when mine is done ![]() ![]()

Looks like e-maps do them too: http://www.e-maps.co.uk/products/BMW...ies+%28e90%29/
I wont be doing mine any time soon, value the warranty too much. Wont probably do the manual 'box any good anyway. The fact these cars car get very expensive when they go wrong would be enough to put me off. ![]() |

Warranty issues aside (I would never condone risking a BMW warranty) I would hate to own a diesel that wasn't remapped - Its not about headline figures, but driveability and feel. The difference is night and day.
I find BMW diesels to be very 'dull' pre-remap, even the most powerful ones. I had my 535d remapped - had more than enough power as standard but didn't utilise it in a way that made you feel like you were going fast. After the remap, it pulled harder and from earlier and the throttle was more responsive. It also ironed out the flat spots. My 320d is now remapped - and although this is a car that does actually need more power, what I really like now is the way it drives and delivers the power, not the top end hikes. |

I used to own a BMW 330D Coupe SE 57 plate remapped from 231 ps to 290ps and 500 ft/lb of torque, the difference was massive. It really pulled like a train from 1800 rpm.
Now I got a 58 plate 330D MSPORT LCI 245ps, the car as standard (I think it is standard?) pulls so much more than my 57 plate. It feels more than 245ps maybe 260ps+, you can defo feel the difference between 6.7s to 6.1s to 62mph as claimed by BMW. I spoke to Jason about possibly remapping my car but since it is highly likely that the remap can't be done by the OBD port and directly on the ECU, it may be a bit more annoying if BMW detects it or erase it! I just know that if a remap is done, it will be a beast! Unless I happen to find out that it was already mapped to 290 bhp+ ![]() |

Interesting what you guys are saying about the 245... TBH, I have no complaints about the way it goes!

I've owned a pre-LCI 330d for 2 years and had my current 330d LCI from new for 6 months. Both were/are standard with manual 'box.
The main thing I notice between the two cars is the power delivery. The LCI is more petrol like and a little bit more linear. Sounds a little better too than the old car on hard acceleration. It definatley feels quicker in first gear, off the mark - which probably attributes to the quicker 0-60. The old 330d is more agressive with the power delivery - which I liked and made it feel very punchy when the turbo kicks in - but ultimately, the LCI feels a tad quicker. Having said that, my LCI is getting better all the time as the miles are going on it. I've still only done 5000 miles in it. One thing that has impressed me this week is the fuel consumption. I had go go up north on a round trip to near Leeds and clocked up over 400 miles. So far on this tank I've done 450 miles and its on a quarter tank with 100+ left showing on the range. Now the old car was NEVER as economical as that. ![]() The first 200 miles up there were driven very steady - but on the way back last night I bollocked home and still got reasonable consumption overall. ![]() ![]() |

I know what you mean about older dervs power delivery - My old Lean FR had a delivery like you mentioned. I liked it too.
I go hot and cold on the idea of a remap though. I was just reading a thread about DPFs and am now on a cold phase!

I personally, wouldnt bother with a remap - and all the hassle that goes with it. It you want a faster car - go out and buy one and be insured and warranted properly.
![]() My point with the insurance is that for me it would be cheaper to insure a 335d than a remapped 330d. And both would have roughly the same power. BTW, what is the most miles have you had out of a tank? |

Yeah, very good points about the remap and insurance. Having said that, selling mine and replacing it with something faster would be a lot more expensive than the extra insurance.
Warranty definitely worries me though, especially as I've just forked out £400 quid for one - it would be really annoying if, after paying that they refused to cover something because they found the remap. Most I've got out of mine is about 510 miles. It was quite handy over the recent fuel shortage not to have to fill up. I did a whole week's holiday, driving from London to Suffolk on that one tank. ![]()

Yes the LCI definitively pulls harder on 1st and Second gear. It seems that the gear ratio is slightly higher too (might be wrong).
On my 57 plate 330d I have done 720 miles on a tank in 2009, yes 720 driving all the way to the south of France, 60 litre and 720 miles!!! French motorway are very smooth I was averaging 75 miles an hour! I am sure if I drove the same way with the LCI one I would do that little bit more, it is boring though! Having the car mapped with 680Nm of torque (500 ft/lb) was amazing. In Gear acceleration was immense, lets put it this way even in a latest ferrari you would hardly generate that torque and not at 2000 rpm. If you have the msport set up and an auto box, it is pretty safe too! Had done 40 000 miles with the map, and the car never missed a beat. |

Glad your map has been smooth running. Still hoping someone with a mapped LCI will pop up at some point though so I can hear what they think.
