335xi 1/4 mile day results

Went to the dragstrip today. Temp near 45, really slippery track, all 4 wheels spins in first and second. Car is the one in signature, with 100 octane race fuel, map7. Did about 25 back to back runs. Best run was 12.41 @ 111.58 mph with a 1.777 60 feet. Pretty damn good considering tracks conditions. Other runs were good to, 12.5-12.6 @ 109 ish mph.
Also ran out of race fuel so filled back the car with straight 91, full tank, on map 5. At that moment we where 2 in the car, still managed a some 12.8 ish several times in a row with traps of 107-108 mph.
Got the time slips, but I'm from my phone now, will add them later.
Note that all the runs were 2 people in-car runs, unless the 12.41 run and a 12.46 run witch where done with me only in car.

Told you track was not in good shape for traction and both 1st and 2nd gear all wheels were spinning. People with rwd cars were struggling for traction. Anyway, 1,777 is not bad either.

Nice runs, 60' for a 1st gear launch is about as expected when you spin that bad, bump the temp up 10 degrees and you'll see it drop into the high 1.6x range for sure.

Track surfaces below 50 F are worse than the street for traction, I did 60 passes last year at temps varying from 45 F to 65 F and could see measurable differences in traction as the temps cooled.

My best 60' time ever was 1.65 on pilot sports (also the best published 335xi 60' time) with no weight reduction, track temps were 55 F and that night I ran a 12.031. There was a good bit of initial spin which helps keep things from breaking, axle hop in an XI is a TERRIBLE thing.

All I am wishing for is to break a 1.7x 60' and I am home run in the 11s. Everytime I try I get wheel hop

<-- Jealous of the xi launching capabilities I have to pussy foot a 2nd gear launch for any reasonable traction on street tires!

Not likely to happen if you launch without over-abusing high rev clutch dumps IMHO. There's so much torque down low it forgives low rev launches

I went to the track yesterday too...
It was 55 degrees out with the mods in signature... and I'll definitely post up my slips later today because I think I have the best published 60' time now

Ah, I just noticed the OPs car is a manual trans? Steptronic and AWD would be the perfect combination.

I agree. I'm happy with the 1.8 60's I was hitting on a bone stock 6MT XI at high elevation a few weeks ago. Hopefully it will just keep getting better from here as I add power.

What are you guys doing about wheel hop on an XI?

It was fun cutting low 60ft times until it started hopping like a mofo.
