225/45/17 tires + 17" wheel experiences?
Hello I bought my bmw e90 320d about month ago and now I was planning to buy some nice 17" wheels + summer tires
So today I went to local tireshop to see some 225/45/17 tires and I noticed that 225/45/17 tires sidewall is much stiffer than 205/55/16. They felt same than 205/55/16 runflats!! Those runflats were horrible to drive. I asked about that tire and seller said that he have had those 225/45/17 tires on Volkswagen passat some time ago and He would not recommend them because in every groove you have to squeeze steering wheel if you want to go straight. There was another guy who said the same about those low profile tires when I asked his opinion. I know that volkswagen passat is not the same car and i would like to get bigger wheels but I dont want them if they are horrible to drive So should I just keep those OEM 16" wheels and buy new 205/55/16 summer tires or buy 225/45/17 tires and new 17" wheels? All opinions and tips are welcome Last edited by dotzmugello; 05-03-2012 at 11:52 AM.. |

I had no problems with 17 inch runflat. In my opinion they felt quite smooth, but then again im used to low profile tyres.
Maybe those tyres was some cheap brands and worn, or the car had bad alignment.I dont need to always steer my car to make it go straight. Last edited by MonacoBlueE90; 05-06-2012 at 07:25 AM.. |
