In need of parental wisdom here...
Wifey and I have no kids, so maybe things that bother us are normal for folks with kids. Therefore I need some guidance from those of you with kids. We were out picking up some stuff tonight and we stopped into the local Cracker Barrel for dinner. As we were getting ready to leave, I caught the unmistakeable whiff of poopy diapers. I turned to see the mother of the family behind us changing her kid's nasty diaper on the table. She was in the process of wiping the kid's butt. On the table. In the restaurant dining area.
Am I wrong to think this was a bit out of line (to put it mildly)? Personally I was appalled and disgusted, but the waitstaff seemed to be going about their business delivering food to the nearby tables without any undue notice, so maybe it's just my lack of child-rearing experience. Thoughts?

No. That's not normal at all. I would've turned on the mother and told her to go to the bathrooms (kindly of course). If that doesnt work I would ask her how she would feel if you decided to take a dump right next to her while she was eating.

No class at all. We take ours to the bathroom, as most have changing tables nowadays or take them outside.
I would never do that in the dining area, much less on the dining table itself

Let me add that as a father of 5, I would have had no problem about getting up and letting them know that they were disgusting pigs and should be ashamed of themselves.

What they did was not appropriate or sanitary. Kids that need their diapers changed should get taken to the bathroom. I'm sure at least the women's room in the restaurant has a baby change table (probably one of the wall mounted ones).

I'm just sick and tired of self-centered jackasses who think anything they do is ok and screw anyone who doesn't agree. My parents would have a fit if we (5 kids) caused a disturbance or showed any disrespect to any adult. My Dad knew how to crush you with a look of disappointment or elate you with a look of pride. For a generation now too many parents have been slaves to their kids instead. The kids rule by screaming bloody murder if they don't get their way. I blame Dr. Spock (not the Star Trek one). Now a lot of those kids have kids of their own.

Fock no, that's not normal and you should've smacked the bitch for having no common sense nor consideration for others.
I have a five year old and when he was fairly new and we were out and about, my wife always carried a diaper bag with all the necessities to change the baby. But we do not ever flop out the changing mat on the dinner table.

As a father of 2, I would never change a poopie diaper in the middle of a restaurant. However, full disclosure: I have changed a pee-pee diaper in a restaurant, but it was a deserted, unused section of the restaurant on a bench, out of view, on a changing pad. Dads on here know that changing pee-pee diapers can be done in < 30 seconds.

Wow... That is disgusting. We have a 10 month old and always change him in the bathrooms. If there is no changing table, we will change him on his changing pad on the floor of the bathroom. I would have definitely said something to the manager. That is just ridiculous.

Yea, I definitely would have said something to the manager. If he doesn't do anything about, then you get his name and contact the headquarters/home office with your complaint.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned health and safety issues. A quick photograph from your phone sent to head office and the local news station would probably have the waitstaff and manager fired quicker than it takes schoy to change a pee-pee diaper.
