Car and Driver tires evaluation
I don't know if any of you checked in the last issue of Car and Driver, but there is an article comparing 11 tires on an E90 BMW 325i (Borrowed from the TireRack).
Is it interesting? Yes and no, they have biased their evaluation towards dry grip, to the detriment of wet grip, and that gives strange results (They didn't say either if all those tires are run-flats). This disadvantages the tires delivered with the car (Either Bridgestones or Pirellis), and has the effect of placing a Continental tire in second place (Looking at the comments on it, it shouldn't be there). Anyways, the #1 tire in their evaluation seems to be a GoodYear Eagle F1 (It beat all others in every aspect so it has earned that place), something to remember when the rubber that came with the E90 will need replacement... |

Hopefully by the time it comes to replace the Bridgestones, the Goodyears will come in a runflat option...
Tread pattern looks great on the F1s

Pirrelliss and Dunlops are very good IMHO as winter tires, had them both (with the Dunlops in both ru and non run flat). |

I had a set of Eagle F1's on my previous. By far the best mixture of wet and dry handling for tires. I had a set of michellin's before, blew them out of the water, no pun intended.

Any review that says a Continental tire is good for anything besides hanging from a tree for kids to swing on is worthless. I'll bet their top ten tire advertisers list looks identical... coincidence?

Car and driver is one of the most respected mags because they were the first to refuse bribes for better articles. They publish all there findings truthfully with out influence from manufacturers. As far as the plagiarism thing goes, they were the first to write the way they do. Car and Driver has been the number one selling automotive magazine for a very long time. I think it is over thirty years.

Fair enough - but they are now I think part of the Hachette publishing empire - ad dollars count now. As for the criteria for evaluation-they fudged the weighting so their numbers are pretty meaningless. Once they started doubling some values and diving others they lost me. |
