Duration testimonials of wrap/ plastic dip
Hey everyone,
Could those that wrapped their exterior trim/car or those that plastic dipped their trim/car post how long have you had it and what's the condition so far? I'm thinking of wrapping or plastic dipping my window trim and I'm not sure which will last longer. |

I plasti-dipped my window trim about 2 months ago, it wasn't as easy as it appears. If you're a perfectionist like myself, you'll be annoyed by the small imperfections you're likely to get on the bottom of the trim on the door. What'll likely happen is when you're peeling off the plasti-dip, you're going to peel some of the black off at the bottom of the window trim on the door and you'll see some chrome.
But it's holding up pretty well. |

Good idea. Been thinking of either wrapping or dipping an X5. Just worried plastidip wont last and start peeling.

Plasti-dipped my wheels and window trim ... 3 months or so ago. Holding up just fine. No real sign of wear on either (little dirt and break dust in the wheels that's a pain to get out though). Just make sure to get the surface clean and to not have any lifting on any edges. Wrapped my girls wheels at the same time but we didn't do as good of a job and the edges are starting to peel.

I'm really interested in those that have either wrapped or plastic dipped for longer durations (maybe years?).
And, it doesn't have to be just trim. I want to know how vinyl has held up for those that wrapped their whole car and roofs, or plastic dipped their whole car (even though that seems to be a new thing now). |

Vinyl wrap there is a huge industry for, plenty of information on the duration of vinyl wrapping out there. Tons of companies use it on a regular basis. The durability of various types of vinyl wrap are listed by the manufacturer and are, on average, accurate.
Plastidip is the big mystery and the thing is that it hasn't been a popular thing to do for very long so it's going to take some time for people to give those types of testimonials. Another thing is, for the cost, even if it only lasts 6 months, just do it again. $7/can, 4 cans to do a car 2 times a year = $56 a year to plastidip your wheels. Judging by the finish on mine, they will last at least that long. |

i looveee plastidip!!! At first i thought it was kind of cheap just incase people will notice the peeling and everything and also i thought it would take FOREVER to do it since i have to take off the wheel and everything..its been about err 3 months now? and i didnt even take off the wheel or have had to do any touchups :]]] the only thing i did do was get glossifier and changed my matte black grilles to piano black! and same with the reflectors..hope you like it!

i used two cans just on my window trim. i would think you'd need at least one can per wheel to get a nice thick coat on there <more durable>.
