100K Service - Suggestions?

Hi guys,

I just broke 100K, so I'm thinking of doing some preventative maintenance on my car. This is what I'm looking to do. If you have any other suggestions, etc., please feel free to chime in.

* Transmission Pan & Filter replacement
* Power Steering Fluid Flush
* Brake Fluid Flush
* Spark Plugs
* Oil Change

I've already done a differential oil and transmission oil flush at 65K, so I think it's a little early to do the differential oil again.

Share your thoughts, and let me know if I should do any other maintenance work! Thanks in advance for your 2 cents.

Perhaps coolant flush. Agree on differential fluid if it was done at 65K. You may consider oxygen sensors, although they are due at 120K miles.

It's almost never "too early" to do driveline fluids. For a keeper, I'd make the interval every 50k mi tops though the filter could perhaps be done every other fluid drain/fill depending on how blocked it seems to be. Start using a turkey baster to extract and replace the power steering fluid every 1 or 2 oil changes and you won't need to "flush" it as a major operation either since it's constantly being partially renewed. Make sure you use CHF-11S. IMO, coolant should have been done long ago (like 60k). Ditto on plugs.

Using some "street" prices for fluids, presuming DIY so labour is free:

6MT Amsoil MTF $20-25 Redline MTL $20 Redline D6 $20
diff Amsoil SVG $20-25
coolant BMW OE $20 + $1 in distilled water
brakes ATE Type 200 $18 ATE Super Blue $23
plugs $71 for 6 free ship CONUS from Amazon
steering CHF-11S $20 from Amazon
cabin air filter $22
engine air filter $30
I don't know the fluid spec or capacity for ATs offhand

This stuff is cheap considering the cost of the machine you're putting it in, and what some people spend on wheels, tint, subs, lighting etc... IMO, there's no reason to stretch change intervals out to even 100k at the expense of the equipment.

definitely good advice. coolant flush seems like a great idea as well.

Surly, thanks for posting those details!
