335i eating oil
i have approximately 91k on the car now, and up until now its never needed additional oil to be added. it seems lately after the last two oil changes its eating about a quart of oil since the warning comes up.
i've driven the car the same, which is slow and steady (due to too many tickets) is it fairly normal for a 335i to start eating a quart of oil every 10k? |

It's not normal for any car to do so, but the Germans are known for issues like that at higher mileage. That's also wh they're not famous for reliability, either, lol. Have it checked out by someone who knows.

Check your oil filter housing.
It's most likely leaking not eating it. You should also drop your front under tray to see if it has drip spots inside, since it will collect there and not hit the floor. |

1 quart every 10k no big deal. if you have 91k on car and havent gotten walnut blasted, might reduce oil consumption. though I wouldnt worry about 1 quart, just dump in in and call it day, your going to have much larger problems with this car down the road.

1 quart every 10K? That is not oil consumption.
That is normal. There is always some oil on the cylinder walls. The scraper ring doesn't get it all and you don't want it to. This is nothing more than that residual oil going out of the tail pipe. I had a BMW 5 series some 20 years ago and it was "NORMAL" according to BMW specs to burn a quart in 1500 miles. 1 quart in 10K is nothing. It's really nothing in a 91K mile motor. |

A walnut blast is recommended.

Normal, but don't tell that to a VW/Audi owner!

I had a Nissan Maxima that consumed 1 quart of oil every 350 miles.
THAT'S consumption. 1 quart every 10k miles is better than normal. My 335 has been doing that since 50k miles... and coincidentally I also started changing the oil every 10k miles so it never mattered to me. |

Mine were so bad that I couldn't believe my engine was even running when the SA showed me the before pics. That was at 69k miles..

If you change your oil at around 7-8k miles you won't need to add a quart every 10k miles :P I change my oil every 7k miles and especially your miles are high, it's probably more better to change them sooner

Mine's taking up a qt every 800 mi. Two dealers told me BMW claims it's normal. Frustrating, but they just changed my oil, marked the exact amt, and want me to come back in when the light comes on. They want to do this another 2x to "build a case." BS, but have to wait it out. The car never used to do this and they claim they checked the oil filter gasket for leaks and none apparent.

My wife's X3 3.0 e83 burns 1 liter every 1200km. The dealer advises that this is acceptable. They would replace the engine under warranty if it burned 1 liter in 900km. So it's being monitored, but unfortunately it has not gotten any worse.
I find nothing more frustrating then adding a 1/2 a liter of oil every time I fill the car with gas (~500km per tank). I explained to the dealer that I should never need an oil change as they recommend 25K km oil service, I would have added 20 liters by then. I have 125k km on my n54 with a few dozen track days and haven't burnt a drop. |

my service adviser told me that the oil burning issue would go away if I have the heads cleaned.

$500 and it will not change the engines oil consumption.
