Weekend of Fabrication
I must say I have a greater appreciation for people that fabricate manifolds, downpipes, etc...This weekend I decided to try my hand at building a manifold using the tools out of my garage at my apartment :0 . The welder I own/use is a lincoln easy mig 140. Making a 4-1 merge collector was a huge pain. The manifold is for my Mazdaspeed 3 and its just something I wanted to do especially since I wanted a top mount manifold for the car. I might consider doing one for the 335i if I can find a flange with the exhaust port rings.
I welded up the collector Friday after work and saturday morning, the fun began. Making slow progress saturday morning Manifold tacked into place early sunday afternoon |

Thanks. I'd definetly like to tig the manifold but i dont know tig yet and even though it wont look as nice id rather complete it myself than to have someone else tig weld it. Either way i have a greater appreciate for people who do this for a living.

You can buy rings for building headers that clip into the pipe and align them so you don't have to hold them in place and tack them. Makes life a lot easier. That's a tough job to do complete, nice work.
