Transmission Slipping?
Was pulling out onto the road and a truck was coming so I didn't have time to completely disable DTC, but I pushed the button and hit it in second. The car accelerated, though pretty slow, and the rpms went up, not as slow as if I were in gear, but not as fast as if I were in neutral...I shifted to 3rd, same thing. Also got some fairly serious vibration. I thought wheelslip for a second but didn't hear anything, and I doubt I'd be getting that much wheelspin, so I didn't know what to make of it. Slowed down, turned the car off and back on. Did it for about 3 seconds and then the car drove completely normal and did not slip whatsoever, even in the same conditions. No codes were thrown. This was very weird. Any ideas?

I don't think codes would be thrown for a transmission. Also, my friend had his warranty voided b/c of A tune and they refused to pay for his transmission when it failed prematurely.

I didn't think so either I just posted that so nobody asked. What tune was your friend running? That's interesting as I've only heard of that happening to one person. Did he bring it in with the tune on it? Not clearing codes or what?
I think that its weird that my situation couldn't be reproduced again. Normally a slipping transmission is going to continue to slip. Also I don't have much experience with the half-off DTC...anyone have experience getting on it in this mode?

Its normal....you cannot just go WOT on a 335is from a stand still unless you use the LC. There is a safety mechanism in place that will cut your power to the drive, ie neutral engagement if too much torque at a sudden goes on the tyranny.
This happens if you hit the kickdown under 15 mph to a stand still. |

I have a 6MT so I'm not sure if that still applies but thank you for the information on that!

Really? I was never aware that 6MT had kickdown...what would it do on a 6MT? I've never felt it but I guess I'll have to look for it today.

B/c its a MT, if the slipping continues you've killed your clutch/gears. It sounds like the DME just retarded the performance so you didn't fry your trans. You only get a kickdown (aka, downshift) in the AT/DCT trans because the car has control over the gear selection.
