BMS BOX jerky
Is it normal that the car feels extremely jerky with the BMS power box installed ? I have been told that it happens after you stop , and pull off ..

On map 3; totally normal. On map 6 it goes away; but defeats the purpose (mine at least) of having a PBX.

This has not happen to me, I just got the bms power box and I was reading, that this guy had it happen to him and wanted to know if it was something common. I heard that on take off , sometimes it could be jerky. It's not smooth. I just wanted to make sure that was not that case..
I have heard alot of great things about this device. |

map 3 is 100% throttle like a "race" map so too speak so whe. you step on the gas pedal to get going its basically tricking the throttle into thinking your slamming the gas. so yes a little jerky but hey wacha gunna do

it might be a bit jerky at first because you aren't used to it, and you used to have to mash the gas pedal for it to do anything.
Map 3 = 100% throttle map + tune. If it's too jerky, try map 1 (30% throttle map + tune), or map 2 (60% throttle map + tune). Maps 4, 5 and 6 are throttle maps (30%, 60%, 100%) without the tune. |

Trying running map 2. That's what I did, and have not had any issues since.
Is yours an AT or MT? With my 6MT, a lot of the jerkiness goes away with proper throttle control. It just takes some getting used to. |

Mine's been set to Map 3 since I had it installed in November 2009. Never had a single issue with it. No jerkiness, no problem at all. Makes the throttle response nice and sensitive. Gives my 325i the boost it should have had coming out of the factory.

Yea, it is a bit jerky. I keep it on MAP 3 and when I'm taking off of a dead stop it takes me a second longer than anyone else because I'm scared that if I touch that pedal too hard I'll get whiplash. Kind of annoying, but I rather have that than pressing the pedal down 75% to get it moving like it is stock.
![]() Now I know why when I took it for a test drive the CA put it on DS mode right away without even asking me. |

^^ if that's the case, you should put it on Map 2. That's kinda the beauty of the device, the throttle mapping is adjustable. Some years of our cars have more lag than others, and it is also different between manual and automatics.

Upon first reviews this sounds like a great product. However the more I read about this it doesn't make sense. Instead of throwing $300 towards basically a throttle re-map, why not put that 300 towards a tune ($499) which has proven results upwards of 12-15hp.
I don't have experience with either, however. I've been researching, but after reading many reviews plan to do an intake manifold swap and a AA tune (40-50 hp for ~$1k). Seems like the best bang for the buck, esp on these motors. |

Does anyone know where i can get a AA tune. I live in Brooklyn, and im mostly in white plains ?
I would love to get this mod.....The only bad thing i have heard about this mod is that if your car is under warranty, it would not be wise to do it , and also if bmw needs to flash your ecu to clear a check engine light, you would have to have you car tuned again . |

If you're worried about warranty and want the adjustable throttle response go with the BMS box. You can put it in map zero (bypassed) when you go to the dealer. Also you don't have to worry about losing it when your ecu is reflashed. The real problem with the N52/6A combination is the throttle lag. You aren't going to get appreciably more power out of this engine no matter what you do.
You want to go faster? Go to a performance driving school and upgrade your suspension. |
