Bilstein is coming out with a "ride control" version of the B16 that is cockpit adjustable. As convinced as I am that the PSS9s are great coilovers, I am waiting for these new cockpit adjustable ones. Very sensible for the street -- note that they are an option (EDC) on the E9x M3.

There are several threads on them.

Tein EDFC doesn't control the height adjustability...just the dampener (how soft/stiff the ride is).

Any idea of when the B16's are coming out? I'm not owrried about ride hieght, just dampening.

Tein, Tanabe, Bilstein and JRZ all have, or will have shortly, an in-car remote to control the damping.

That being said, it's a gimmick and completly useless IMO. It sounds nice and all, but everyone, everyone I know that has had one of these setups ends up leaving on one setting and never touching it.

None of the systems, besides maybe JRZ are suitable for serious track use, so have a street setting then changing to a stiffer race setup is pointless.

Also, a nice set of coilovers will give you a better ride than stock and still be far, far superior on a track.

The last thing I'll say on the subject is this, how hard is it to adjust the damping on the shock? Quit being lazy and dont waste your money on gimmicks.

This is all IMO of course, but as I said, everyone I know of who has bought the in-car control box ended up regretting it, and after the novelty wore off, wished they hadn't wasted the money and just put it towards a better coilover.

Tein's EDFC controller allows three presets which most use for a variety of driving conditions. i.e. Comfort/Sport/Race or Street/Highway/Race. These settings are standard in a few production cars in the market.

I agree that many who purchase these optional controllers never utilize the features. However, I find these units very valuable. If anyone can determine the difference between a soft and hard setting, they will put this item to good use.

I see your point and never support the wussification of humanity, but if I am driving on a standard highway, then detour to a twisty mountain road, pulling over to adjust settings will be a large inconvenience.

These units are obviously not for everyone, and I'm sorry to hear that your friends wasted their money. But there are some out there that can put them to good use.

I had the TEIN EDFC on my STI and I can tell you that I used the adjustments every day, but I am a car nut. A lot of people buy it for the bling factor unfortunately.

If you are serious about driving and like to track the car, go for it.

i would seriously consider a set of these for my E90 in the future.... especially living up here in montreal, it would be great for driving on these horrible roads and between summer and winter driving...

The car will not be raced or tracked. That being said, I have a 30 mile trip to and from work everyday on back, twisty roads that I drive very aggressively. On the other hand if I am on a 4 hour road-trip with my wife I don't want (nor does she) to feel evey bump. I don't want to say money doesn't matter but I'm willing to pay to have the best of both worlds and I think I would use it.

if you wait for them to develop an air bag setup

I think air ride was the company that makes it for e46

you can adjust height and damping from inside the car
