Questions for you guys out there:
I had a pair of black leatherette sport seats with memory and side bolsters but w/o lumbar, and I just swapped them to a pair coral red sports seats with memory, bolsters and WITH lumbar. After the new seats have been plugged in I noticed that the bolsters and the lumbar doesn't work, however the power and memory works fine.
Can anyone tell me what do I need to do to get the bolsters and the lumbar to work? I've search the internet but can't seem to find anything.

Ok folks after many hours of reading and research i have found a solution that i tested today and both bolster and lumbar works Woohoo

now for thoses that will be in the same boat as me this is what I have done. hope that will help you save some reading time !

First:

remove the seats by following the DIY found in the diy section. Once you have done take the yellow plug (seat connector) under your seat and remove all three harness. I checked the following diagram to ensure which Pin powers my bolster and lumber:

In my case pin number 9 was the steady plus used for lumbar and side-bolsters since my Coral seats build date was prior to 03/2007.
I also checked the connector coming out of the floor carpet and confirmed that i had no power in pin 9 but rather in pin 7 since my car was built after 03/2007. So now all that was left was to run power from the pin 9 to a new pin 7. Because pin 9 connector was too big to just do an automatic swap I needed to get a new smaller pin 7. Here are the list of what I purchased and needed:
- 2 Pin contacts - 61130006664 @ 1.98 each (I paid mine 3.70 each cause here in Canada we get f#$k like that )

- 2 self-strip clips - 61138364566 @ 1.59 (I paid mine 3.58 each cause here in Canada we get double f#$k like that )

- 1 electric tape
- 1 exacto
- 1 pliers


Ok now on to the fun part:
I needed my car to go get the parts so...i had to put everything back together lol. if that's your case then unplug battery, unscrew bolts, disconnect the yellow connectors...bla bla bla.
I removed the seat out of the car in order to work better.
I removed the harness out the connector and with the exacto cut the black tape holding all the wires together. You want to go as far as you can with the red/purple wire (pin 9) because if you attach the self-strip clip too close you won't be able to put the harness back inside the connector. Once you noticed that you have remove enough black tape simply use the self-strip clip and clip both the power red/purple wire (pin 9) and the newly purchased red/black pin contact. Because the original pin 9 wire was bigger i used the pliers to press on the self-strip clip in order to close it firmly. Then I used electric tape to wrapped the two wires including the self-strip clic together. Put as much as you feel is needed in order to protect everything correctly.
Now I inserted pin 9 back into its slot and as well inserted the new pin 7 in the number 7 slot. re-assemble all three harness inside the yellow connector and put everything back in place. Do the same on the passenger side. Reconnect the battery et VOILA!! You should now have your lumbar and side-bolster working.

This is the easiest and fastest solution I have found and hope that it will help some of you out there.

Hi i have same problem, i recently put e92 m3 interior in my 325 coupe, all front/back up/down seat positioning is working and memory seats, but the lumars and bolsters are not working, dont fully understand what wires i need to chang, can you help please??

Hey mate,
You first need to find out the build date of your M3 seats. Then look at the post number 51 on the following thread:

you then need to compare the connector on the seat with the one on the floor of the car. If they don't match then you will have misconnection between Pin 9 or Pin 7. In my situation on the seat I had the red power on Pin 7 but on the connector on the floor it was on Pin 9. So i had to take the power from pin 9 to push it on pin 7. So look at the 1st table in the link I posted above to know which power wire to need to change.

look under the seats mate or better yet if you also installed the rear seat just pull one of the side panel and there should be a date sticker on the back of it.

Yes and also figure out which power pin needs to be re-wired.

See my attachment, do i basically have the right idea? (i believe i also need the GND, hence PIN8 going to PIN13. and both my seat and car are after 3/2007)
How do i actually move, (or duplicate, as the case may be as i imagine i still need a 12v going to PIN4 and GND to PIN8, for "seat module" right?) the pins?

I'd rather not cut off the harness at attach each wire manually, or is that not possible?

I havent removed the yellow shield from car harness just yet because i want some direction first.

Hey moreno1, thanks for posting your find and fix. I am having the same issues and would like to confirm what I am about to do before doing it...I have a 2005 e90 and just bought a pair of second hand 2006 e90 sport seats. Love them already, however the lumbar and side bolsters do not work on the driver side only....kind of strange. Well I decided to look at the wiring and found the car wires do not match up. Note I have not looked at the passenger seat wiring yet...thinking maybe I should do this, but either way driver side is not working and according to the wire diagram I need pin 9 wired to use these functions.

My question is can I take pin 4 or 8 or put it into 9 to get these working? Or do I need to run a new wire from the fuse box under the carpet and to seat?

See pictures of the car wiring and seats wiring. You can see pin 9 and 13 are empty coming out of the car.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW - I do not have heated seats nor need them in my very warm climate.

I bridged the wires on the seat side by soldering them as it should be just about getting power and ground to the correct place. i.e. you share the power and ground wires coming into the seat.

You can split the insulation without cutting the wires and then soldered them together - we twisted a short length of wire around the two we were linking to help hold them.

By doing the mod on the seat there is less risk of screwing up the car loom!

I finally got around the wiring the seats this weekend. I am happy to report it works. So I cut the existing pin 4 power and 8 ground wires from the car and added 2 of each wires so I filled the connector with pin 4 and 9 for power and 8 and 13 for ground and voila as you say. All is working. I am not yet completely happy with the splice material used that links the wires together, so I might redo it if I can find a better split joint.

Hoping this will be helpful to wire up the heater elements of my sport seats that I swapped for my non-sport, non-heated seats.

I know I'll need to run some wire and get some switches, but main thing is identifying which wires in the harness to tap into for the heating elements.

Any additional thoughts/help is appreciated.

I bought a set of e92 M seats and installed the driver. Only the positional seat controls work.

The seats have heat, memory and bolster support.

Car and seats are post 03/07 build date.


My question is about the connectors:

1)The main connector that connects the seat to the car
2) the small black one that has male and female ends.
3) A mystery connector that's white. I believe its to power the memory, heat, lumbar and bolster.

Can someone help me with #3? #2 and #3 both come from the seat. #2 has a connection coming from the car so its a non issue.

The yellow plug can be opened en 3 other plugs can be taken out of the yellow holding.

Resurrecting an old thread to help others. Thanks to op and the contributors making this so much easier.

I just did this, my car is a 2011 and the seats were 2009. The wiring diagrams kind of helped but here's what I did:

Passenger side very easy
I used one of these to connect the two wires 7 and 9 on the seat side


Driver side
Same deal but you have to bridge the plus side and the ground
So two of those connectors, red and black wire with the red and brown. Then brown with brown.
