Talking Vishnu Performance: Durability Testing to the best of the 80s

Hi guys,
Last week, we had the opportunity to do some durability testing on a rented-out airport runway. We brought both our 335i as well as our 996tt out to play. Most of the day, we spent running the tires off (literally) the BMW. We logged coolant temp, exhaust temps, intake temps and cylinder head temps. Running both the standard v1.47map as well as the prototype v2.0 set-up. The ultimate goal is to provide v1 levels of max thermal loading (which we know is well within the safety zone based upon endurance racing results, testing, etc,.) while still allowing v2 power output (when conditions are conducive).

To induce these high thermal load conditions, we drove the cars at max load with minimal cooling effects through radiator and intercooler. This meant I got to drive sideways. All day. Until the tires popped

So enjoy the testing video as created by our very own Dustin@Vishnu. All done to the music of Debarge, the now official testing music of Vishnu Performance (and at the top of Dustin's i-pod play list).

Enjoy!

Shiv

WOW! that looks fun. I can't wait to beta V2. It's good to see your doing REAL testing ie:track testing,Races and putting real stress on the car and not just some numbers on a dyno machine like some folks playing with resistors *cough* and free map switch gimmicks ..But that song was gay.

Some minor fixes, same power output. v1.47 is the better map.

Cheers

Shiv, what did you mean by: "while still allowing v2 power output (when conditions are conducive)"?

Does that mean that PROcede v2 will have variable power levels? I mean does that mean that V2 will change its power according to certain conditions like weather, engine temp?? Please tell me im wrong....

leftcoastman-- Nope... about 350 miles farther away

eugen-- The car has a bit over 21k miles on the clock now.

sflgator-- Thanks! I love drifting. With those super sticky Toyo R888 time attack R compound tires, the car would carry a ton of speed through a slide. Took a fair amount of throttle to initiate the drift. But once the tires broke loose, everything was nicely controllable. Could basically pick a line and do whatever you want to with it (circles, figure 8s, etc.) And in 2nd and 3rd gear! 400+lbft of torque at the wheels is a good thing

Boy... cars are fun! I wish I had the balls to take my car out and do that with it. That's why I'm paying $500 to do it to someone else's car!

It's all about temps with the N54. I understand it like this. Shiv mentioned it already in a previous post. That's what I call a sophisticated engine tuning integration .

He has kind of been hinting at that in some other posts. Sounds like a good safety margin since you can certainly have a more aggressive tune in 50 degree ambient temps vs 100. Maybe V2 will have that ability to adapt.
