MOUNTAIN VIEW BMW dealer scratched my trunk and above the driver side tail light

I should have looked at it at the dealer but i was just too happy to get my car back to really check it out. They basically tried to buff it because I can see where they started to buff on the driver side corner of the trunk and there are 3 long deep lines starting from there.

I'm beyond pissed, they even managed to get white paint/scratches on the trunk emblem. On the emblem how is that even possible

So what can I expect them to do tomorrow when I take it back in? After just getting it back today, can I get them to repaint my car? Should I call my insurance?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What you can expect will greatly depend on your attitude toward the dealer, and the dealer itself.

Go in and start yelling and you won't get very far.

I would explain the situation to your SA, ask what can be done to resolve the issue (i.e. have the trunk and emblem repainted/repaired/etc). If the SA isn't able to give you a satisfactory answer ask to speak to the Service Manager. If they aren't able to help or give you satisfactory resolution, ask to speak to the General Manager and keep going. If you press the issue hard enough, but without losing your cool, you'll probably get pretty far with them and they'll be willing to work with you and make you happy.

Good advice.

And publicly identifying a dealership before they have a chance to make things right is never a good idea.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out.

Thanks guys I already talked to my SA and he said he will look at it today and fix it, one of the reasons I was mad yesterday was because they would put me on hold and tell me my SA would speak to me shortly but after awhile it would just goto voicemail and finally after 3 calls I got ahold of him. Hopefully things go smoothly.

I've got a very good SA but have the same problems getting through to him. These guys should have private lines with the numbers given out only to you and me!

Depending on how the service dept. told you about the damages, that's one place to avoid for me. Did they inform you on the damage or did they try to hide the damages? When did you find out that your car had damages?

I always inspect with the SA after driving into the customer bay, make comments on how ding/scratch free it is. Does that make a difference? Only when your car comes out with a scratch/scuff/dent after service! I had the experience of finding out that the VW dealer scratched my new grill.

Notice how service doesn't perform a walk around your car when done, but you should always do that before leaving the bay/parking lot. I don't think this applies to you, but that's just my .02 cents. I have average experience with dealers causing dings/scratches.

Deal with them professionally to yield positive results.

Late bump, they actually buffed out the lines but they left buff marks not only on half my trunk but also above the rear window, its one of those things you can only see in the sun and it looks awful. I waited 2 weeks to give them a call back because I was busy with work and its just a hassle going to the dealer in general. Well I guess the Service Advisor didnt like that because he answered the phone in a very rude manner and kept asking me why i waited 2 weeks to call him again.

Now im scared to go and get my car back in even worse condition, what should I do? Should I have called back right away?

edit-Did I mess up by accepting the car back?

Life happens, you shouldn't be reprimanded for being 2 weeks late in informing them of their screw up. I think at this point, you should be communicating directly with the service manager. Bypass the service adviser all together. I'd start by sending a letter via certified mail, to the service manager explaining everything, so you have a documented communication with them.

You need to stand up for yourself. You shouldn't be reprimanded, its your car. Escalate it, but do so calmly.
