Best injection cleaner?
Hi,
this has been discussed a few times (I searched), so I'm just wondering if there's anything new, any new experiences, etc... Basically, it looks like BG44K is the best? Second, Techron? Apparently, BMW sells it, but I can't find the part number... So, should I go for BG44K? Car has 30000KM, planning an oil change soon... |

Chevron Techron an Gumout Regane both contain the same active ingredient. I use, and recommend, either product.

Anything with PEA (polyether amine) in it. Today this includes Redline SI-1, Amsoil PI2, Gumout REGANE products (must say REGANE in order to contain PEA). You can check MSDS safety sheets for various products to see if PEA is shown.
Remember that formulas can change. I read somewhere that "older" BG44K had PEA but newer formulas don't. They may have built their reputation on PEA's performance and then switched to something cheaper. Techron is a good cleaner, but analysis of used motor oil shows a spike in lead wear material when Techron is used (including the use of Chevron fuel). |

I use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner. It cured a fluctuating rpm cold start-up problem and I will not use anything else. Since we don't change our gas filters because they are expensive you MUST use this stuff. By the way, you can use it up to 5 times without changing the oil. I wrote to them awhile back, I posted the email chain on this forum if you care to search for it. Good luck.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

As stated above - I will only use the Chevron Techron - it is exactly the same as the BMW Cleaner (BMW just rebrands with their own label and hence charges $25/bottle for their trouble )
I use it every 3k miles as recommended by BMW, and hve my oil changed every 7500 miles so it is only used 2X before the oil is changed...
