I reckon discussion about fine avoidance is illegal.

If the car is rego'd in a company name and you weren't pulled over. IE. Fixed speed camera, red light camera. Don't pay the fine, don't pay the reminder. It'll go to State Debt Recovery where you'll have an increased fine to pay but no points penality... So I've heard...

Otherwise just pay up.

I had similar experience before.

I was caught by the fixed speed camera, my car was registered in a company name (government leased car) . I did the right thing by nominating myself as the driver, so that the fine can be addressed to me. I sent the form off and never heard from anyone for the next three years. The nomination form was probably lost in postage.

Three years later they sent a legal fine notice to the company about the speeding fine. The company paid for it. By then I have sold the car off.
I did not get the demerit point deduction but I did pay the company the amount that I was originally fined with.

ah, i've also been told that you can OVERpay a fine by a few dollars and they will send a cheque back, as long as you don't bank the cheque you don't loose the points... so i've heard.

A recently deceased relative always works well.

So does a spouse that has lots of points available.

Alternativly get a one from another country, I spent several years living in China so got a one when I was there. Several people I know from NZ also keep their original ones to assist with these kinds of matters.

Of course it's illegal to have 2, but so is putting speed camera's in stupid places IMHO. All fair in love n war!!!

I'd love to know how on earth you plan to get a recently deceased relative to sign a statutory declaration saying it was them driving...
Or instead of copping a speeding fine would you prefer to get done for forgery and producing a false stat dec as well?

If I recall the owner of the car signs the stat dec, as they receive the infringement, not the person driving it. If the person claimed to be driving it just pays the fine then no problemo.

Not quite, the person your claiming was driving the car has to sign the statutory declaration that states that they were driving it. Hence the onus is on the vehicle owner.

No issue if the date of offence is prior to the date of death.

Besides it's hardly legal.......

Dan - you can get out of it if your excuse is technically confusing.

Tell them you could not read the speedo properly because you were reaching down trying to pick up the can of beer you dropped when your PROcede caused the tail end to fishtail while trying to outrun the highway patrol during your servo robbery getaway.

Cheers.

BTW ... that recently deceased thing is like "ruling from the grave".

Spill the beans.... How fast, and what was the speed limit?

I got done for 68 in a 60 zone in the Cross City Tunnel about a year ago.

3 demerit points!!!!   I could have gone 90km/h in a 60 zone and lost the same amount of points

Stupid government bureaucrats raising 0-15km/h from 1 pt to 2 pts to 3 pts... What's the point? Just go 15-30km/h and you'll lose the same amount of points

That's crazy ... 3 demerit points for 6K's over. Just plain rediculious.

I'm expecting a camera fine any day now. I was on the highway comming back from the Gold Coast on Wednesday and passed a camera doing 120 in a 110 zone. Might be lucky depending on the tolerance variation. I'm hoping for 10%. Didn't see a flash but it was a bright and sunny day. It's been 5 years since my last fine so I'll accept it gracefully.

Noticed that new cameras are being installed on the Pacific Highway at Lindfield (both sides of the road) in the school zone! Fortunately they were not operating when I passed them on Wednesday. (you've been warned). There are so many of these things popping up I've decided to buy a Road Angel! Even if you don't intend to speed, I often find I'm half way through a school zone before I've worked out a) its a school day b) checked my watch c) computed that the school zone is in force. Its all about revenue IMO.

School Zones - ahhhhhhhhh - most of the entrances to these schools are in a side street anyway - haven't noticed any speed cameras there though!

The Road Angel is a windscreen mount GPS device with all the speed cameras, red light cameras etc programmed in. It alerts you when you approach one of these zones. I wish the BMW Navigation had the option of uploading these. I'd love a radar detector (many here apparently need one) but alas as you say they are illegal!
