JBL ("harmanaudio") is selling refurb MS-8's with full warranty for $399 shipped on ebay. I bought one a couple of weeks ago - now waiting on my Technic harness to install & fire it up.

Yea, thanks I saw that on ebay. I was hoping to save some by getting it from a fellow member. I got a set of rims and tires that I need to buy, gonna almost break the bank.
May I ask you what set up you're doing?

My car has the stock "hi-fi" system. I'm going to start out by swapping the stock amp for the MS-8 using Technic's harness and seeing if I can achieve some quality sound using the stock speakers after calibrating w/ the MS-8. Next steps would be upgrading the front door tweeters & maybe adding a center speaker.

Word is that the MS-8's have a pretty scary out of box failure rate. Before buying used from a private party, consider the value of the full warranty on the JBL ebay refurb deal.

Sounds good. I have the same system on my pre-lci e90
I'm thinking about doing the same thing kind of... Putting the JBL MS-8, getting Earthquake sws-8 for the under seats and upgrading, well rather, adding a center speaker...was told this could make a great difference.

Used units have been going for around $400 so getting one with full warranty for the same price is a no-brainer.
