Gummi Pflege - good for belts?

Hi guys,

I've been having some issues with a squeaking belt. Whenever the PS pump has more load on it (full lock) the belt starts slipping, causing a high pitch sound (squeak).

Everything in that area was replaced with new parts and the problem returned soon after.

I wondered if there might be some solution to put on the actual belt to make it more adherent, and BMW has recommended Gummi Pflege in a spray tube.
I bought one can, but i noticed that the content is quite oily, greasy, and i think that would cause even more slippage if i apply it on the belt.

What do you think? could this stuff be used safely on the belt or i've been lied to?

Thanks.

No!

Belts and pulleys should be dry and clean or you get slipping, squeaking and dirt build up.

Yes, I know you have a squeak now, but it will just get worse when you start putting stuff on. You may have some sort of a leak like coolant, in particular, which you haven't detected. A contaminated belt can squeak without slipping. A slipping belt isn't tensioned properly because 1/ the tensioner has failed 2/ the belt is the wrong one or has stretched 3/ there's some other failure like a bracket allowing a driven accessory to move when it shouldn't.

You say "new parts". BOTH idler pulleys, the tensioner unit, and the belt are all brand new? Every pulley in the system should be thoroughly scrubbed with degreaser and you should start looking for stealthy leaks on a regular basis. To you see evidence of slipping on the belt when it's removed and inspected?

All pulleys (including the tensioner), vibration damper(twice) and belt have been changed under warranty (< 10,000km).

The dealer has scratched it's head on this problem and now by warranty is over. The only thing that had effect was replacing the belt, but in less than 3months (3000km) the noise was back.

Car has no leaks of any kind in that area. I think the belt is just bad quality and stretches with time, so i was thinking to either switch to an aftermarket model or to try to apply some sort of "something" on the belt, to make it more adherent.

That is why i was asking about that Gummi stuff, but it doesn't look appropriate to use on belts to me. Just wanted to verify.

Don't think the Gummi is a good plan, but there are products specifically for this. Google "belt dressing".
