6FL FM swicthing Poll

From reading LedZeps great thread on 6FL I can see that "FM switching" with 6FL is a common issue. Just trying to get an idea of the numbers involved and whether it's related to production date etc.....

Anyone know if we can find out the version number of the SW thats running 6FL?

I'll start....would appreciate it if people could fill the template on voting.

Mine only switches after the car has been off for several hours. It goes back to last FM station when re-started not back to iPod and last song.

If off for only a half hour or so it goes back to iPod last song. Confusing ??

*Sometimes the car switches to FM after its been off for several hours. On powerup, it appears as if the car doesn't detect the memory stick anymore. Unplugging and replugging the memory stick makes it work again. Has never switched to FM while playing.

* 2 or 3 times (out of 50-100) it's gone back to FM on power up. That happened once when the car had been off for just a few minutes. It's NEVER switched while playing.

I always have the lock set on the iPod.

Only issue i've had with 6fl is sometimes when i start the car and i try to go to my ipod, it wont recognize my ipod is plugged in. Once i disconnect and re-connect my ipod, it starts working again. Never had a problem with listening to my ipod and all of a sudden jumping to FM.

The only issue that I have is on occasion when I start the car (maybe 15% of the time), it will be on FM instead of AUX. When I switch to AUX, the iPod starts playing off where it last was.

6FL is a new option available from March 2007 (I think) which gives you a USB port/Ipod inteface.

If you look at the BMW car configurator you'll see that you can spec a car with it.

Dunno where you'll find the marketing blurb for it though sorry.

The pattern is I can get through almost the first song on the ipod (80g video & 40g) b4 it switches to FM, after that it happens 2 to 3 times or more per song-every song!

I've also had the issue where the ipod isn't recognized and I pull both cables out and plug them back in, then reconnect the ipod, then it works again. But that just starts the switching problem again.

This is my experience everytime cardude hence why I find it so frustrating.

Something I noticed today by chance. When "FM switching" happened, I also lost bluetooth connection to my phone. Not sure if it's always been happening like that but I wonder if it's linked.

I've added "Bluetooth?" to the poll template. Please feel free to update your poll responses if necessary. I'm begining to think that it must be another option like bluetooth thats affecting 6FL since there's no consistency in the build dates.

One more request.... If anyone has any positive or negative responses to reporting this to BMW or a dealer...please post it here or in a dedicated thread for tracking.

Doesn't happen all the time, but once it starts to happen, it keeps happening. On a given hour of driving, it might happen once or twice.

Mine does this, but won't work at all for at least 30 minutes of driving. Once it works, it works well - at least until the car has been off a few hours.
They've ordered me a new ULF module or something like that.

BTW, I spoke to 2 dealers, BMW Ireland, and BMW UK and all denied that this was an issue. Not one of them admitted that anyone had ever reported it!
