Independent Dyno Of Vishnu/FFTEC Single Turbo 335i **VIDEOS INCLUDED**

As many of you know, my car returned earlier this week from Vishnu/FFTEC after my upgrade to a single turbo. I had the PT6262 turbo installed in my car and over the last few days I have had some opportunity to test the car. Precision Turbo has gone over to the CEA (billet) wheels that are known for their fast response. In my testing, I am simply shocked at how quick the turbo responds. Above 3000 rpms, you gas the car and it goes. The pull when the methanol hits is nothing less than fierce! I will be working through my review over the next few weeks, but I did want to give you a look at my first independent testing of the car on the dyno. I ran 93 octane pump fuel, but added 25% MS109 to up the octane a bit. I figured since this was my first time on the dyno that it couldn't hurt with some of the heat I experienced. Ambient temperatures were about 82 degrees during the runs. For reference, I did 262 rwhp stock a long time ago. The first three runs were done with zero cool down on the dyno so I could test the car's ability to reproduce results in hard driving conditions. I know it isn't the smartest thing, but I wanted to test the car. Here are the full 5 runs I got to do today and you will notice INCREDIBLE consistency. The AFRs are rock solid around 12:1 to 12.5:1

The peak run of the day for me was 635 rwhp or an increase in 373 rwhp peak horsepower over my stock car. I maxed around 490 rwtq as well. The flat torque curve is absolutely a ton of fun to drive!

I did log the car, so you could see how it performed under the stress of a dyno in the heat. This was the 3rd run of my "no cool down" runs. Notice the timing curve is absolutely rock solid, fuel trims peak around the 25% category until shift, and boost peaked in this run around 25 psi.

Finally the HD video of the car on the dyno. Notice the second gear throttle stab at 3000 rpms and the response of the turbo. It hits fast and HARD. The sound is nothing less than intoxicating!!!

My review will take a few weeks to complete because of the extent of what I am trying to review. More performance data will be provided as well. I think for now, it was important to show the car makes the power advertised, is consistent (even in harsh conditions), and is very responsive. I am still in AWE with how fast this car is now!

No AFR plots? Curious what they did with the PCV connection to the turbo inlet? Is it just vented to atmosphere? Enjoy, looks like a beast.

Judging from prior pictures of the kit the PCV provision was relocated to the top of the air filter.

What's up with the AFRs between 2.5 - 3k? Is that normal?

Yes, perfectly normal. During spool-up/low boost you don't want a rich AFR. Especially at low RPM.

The boost is very low there and building. I assume it is just to help spool to be honest. The AFRs do trace the increasing boost.

@FBIS - do you find that you have to drive around with full traction control turned off all the time?

I have to have it all turned off ... otherwise all the nannies are kicking on all the time which is un-nerving.

I've only got 350 miles on my single turbo now and I'm loving it. Its absolutely frightening. I find the "claims" of lag pretty silly, its spools fast and the car is brutally quick responding. I think most folks don't realize you don't drive like the way you would dyno - lugging the motor at 2000 RPM and going WOT.

Enjoy ... i'll write up my short review on a different thread.

Thanks WINGNUT! I am really enjoying the driving the car around being without it for a while.

nafoo, this will take a little while to write up. I have a lot of data to collect still.

No e85 for me. I don't want to press the fuel system like that.

Jeff, it pulls so hard now. I wish there was a way I could describe it. Every passenger I have had in the car freaks out trying to grab onto something. Normally it seems they try to put their hands around the seat because it pulls so damn hard!

cupertinosteve, I have never really driven with the traction control on my car. The procede allows us to build boost at partial throttle, so I am learning how to find appropriate pedal locations for each gear. It is MUCH different than the days of pulsing the pedal to control wheel spin in high horsepower cars.

I feel good with the upgraded parts I have to support the power. DSS axles, Quaife LSD, Clutch Master's twin disc 850, R888, M3 suspension bits, Turner diff bushings, AST coilovers, etc. The car feels very stable despite the freakish power it has now.

FBIS, what is the source of the 20 whp difference from the original 654 whp dyno? Less boost or just dyno variance?

crazy power regardless

I suspect the 3 back to back runs with no cool down didn't help Usually, we see the car make more power on the 2nd run. And then even more on the 3rd run. This is because the oil heats up/thins out. But only if there is a good cool down between runs. In this case, the car never had the opportunity to pick up power between the rapid fire runs.

We also dyno'd on a cooler day which probably explains much of the 2% difference in power.
