More beef please?

Don't judge or take sides, just wanted to share my experience and learn the hard way.

Needless to say, when the matter is resolved, the vehicle will be traded in vs. posting it in the classified section.

Yah for some reason the link won't open on the iPhone. I wanted to read it while on the GO train but no luck. It open just fine on my home comp tho.

This happened to my buddy last Saturday on the DVP on his way to Niagara. Some girl in a U-haul truck rammed him from behind and caused a six car pile-up:

He said the front of the car is just as bad and I warned him that his insurance company will try to not write-off the car.

Thanks for the article as I sent it to him.

He was fine dude. Said the force of the accident caused his forearms to totally snap off his signal indicator and wiper arm. Also said a tow truck driver was in the lane beside him and saw the whole thing happen, watching glass fly 15 feet in the air. He was surprised to see my buddy just walk out of his car and told him: "I thought I'd be poking your arm and asking if you could feel it."

The problem right here.
For the record, yes, I am aware that I am a girl. I will not deny that the majority of female drivers out there should not be driving. Period.

He said the police checked the truck and said the brakes were totally gone and that it should not have been on the road. The girl also said it was the first time she had ever driven a truck and the cops estimate he was hit (while stopped in bumper to bumper traffic) at 80 km/h. She was obviously not paying attention either way.

Wow! Looks like Hyundai makes a pretty sturdy cabin area. No airbags deployed though, I guess due to rear collision at stop.

Yep. He said none of the airbags deployed and felt perfectly fine with some minor soreness after the accident.

Glad to hear your buddy was relatively ok after the collision.

For those of us old enough, luckily there wasn't a Ford Pinto involved. Pretty amazed at the amount of force a new car can take and dissipate to avert harm to the driver.

Thanks, will update all.

Currently, I doubt there will be any informal resolution after going through the insurance company's food chain.

In the process of sending a demand letter.

Not bring up a dead post.

Here is an update and closure.

Finally settled the case 3 days prior to going to court in the spring.

Couldn't really sell the vehicle privately.

Insurance company bumped up the cost of repairs to over $38k, from $35k.

Traded the vehicle in and got an exec demo vehicle.

Waited for a while for the ex-car to show up.

Here it is.....

http://inventory.vlci.ca/used/vehicl...e-id522892.htm

comparable to a 2008, in price......

(I don't have any affiliation with the the dealership selling the car)

My take home message: lesson learned the hard way.....

Crazy story.
If you google "beef reader insurer" it still comes up.

Anyways, someone must have driven it in all this time as how does it have 60k km's?

Actually I had to take the vehicle back. Until the case settled, I kept driving the BMW.

It took 2.5 years for things to resolve.

Yes, pretty crazy.

Similar thing happened to my friend. Almost new G37 and car was absolutely crushed after being rear ended at 80km/h by a pick-up truck while she was stopped. Even crumpled the engine after being pushed in to the car in front. They made repairs of >$35K despite her fighting to have it written off. Trunk still won't close properly every time and continues to have other issues.

I'm curious to know your insurance company as well. Thanks.
