COBB PRO TUNED (Andy1991) by Pro Tuning Freaks

Hi all,

Cobb's Pro Tuning software really works!!! Check it out!

They hit the dyno with Andy’s (Andy1991 on e90post) 2009 BMW 335xi AT. Scorcher outside, 95F. On top of that the car is AWD so naturally higher drivetrain losses than RWD (10-12% RWD drivetrain losses vs. 20-22% drivetrain losses in the AWD 335xi). Bone stock, XIs make 247awhp/260awtq on this same type of dyno, in much nicer weather conditions.

Dyno was a Dynojet 424X 4WD dyno, typically a lower reading dyno than your average 2WD Dynojet. Andy’s car has full boltons (intake, fmic, catless downpipes and exhaust), RB turbos and runs pump gas only, no methanol injection.

The car went on the dyno with OTS Stage2+ Aggressive (Linear Throttle). It made 369awhp/396awtq with power and torque tapering towards redline. After our custom calibration with Cobb’s AccessTuner we made what we feel are some impressive gains especially given awful weather conditions and pump gas only.

Result: Peak gains of +27awhp, +23awtq peak compared to the Off The Shelf (OTS) Stage 2+ Aggressive Cobb tune (this peak power dyno below shows a lower peak torque reading than another one that was done after this one. We didn't do too many pulls on the dyno, 1 hour only and that included taking his strut brace off, cowl, engine cover, etc etc. Luckily we did a lot of the tuning on the street a couple days earlier so dyno would go relatively quick making only small adjustments.

What’s really impressive is at 6500rpm the car gained +47awhp +61awtq over the stage2+ map!

With nicer weather conditions the car will no doubt make another 15-20whp easily on pump gas. If Andy were to add methanol injection, given the relatively conservative tuning we are running at this point (18psi peak) we have plenty of room to grow.

Andy is a road course junkie and in his world controllable power at the tip of his foot means more than peak hp. We’ve also adjusted his linear throttle map further to his liking for better tip in feel and smoothness. In case you’re wondering, a similarly equipped RWD 335i would baseline considerably higher (270-280whp instead of 247awhp with the XI). If we went wild and quickly single handedly just swapped Andy’s drivetrain to RWD lol this same car would’ve put down approximately 440-450whp on PUMP gas in 95F conditions (today), 465-470whp in nicer weather, which is pretty astounding at least to us.

Point is in the delta, not dyno queen numbers. Dyno chart attached.

Very impressive numbers for an AT XI, just hope that TC holds up well. Might just hold on to my XI a little bit longer after seeing this lol.
Great work PTF!

Great numbers & the gains from the OTS to the ProTuned maps are great. My only "complaint" is that the car had RB Turbos & with a COBB tune, you really don't get full performance from them until you get a ProTuned Map.

Regardless -- Still very excited & strongly considering getting a ProTuned Map myself

Dzenno is from Ontario (Canada), so I'd assume there

There's no specific location on their website, blog or FB page so I'd assume majority of the tuning is done by email

IDK who all is a part of PTF, but Dzenno is in Canada and fly low is located in NORVA.
Hopefully, I'll be getting an in person tune from flylow as soon as my schedule(and some personal issues) stops being all consuming.

Expect a full review when that happens.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I was just missing it as I looked through all of their sites.

I had just sent a PM to FlyLow regarding PTF. I had no idea he was working with them.

I believe Pro-Tuning Freaks (www.protuningfreaks.com) is a 2 man operation. Dzenno & FlyLow335i. FlyLow is in Bethesda, MD actually.

rader buddy, how's it been?

Since you have meth now, why not tune it yourself with ATR? it seems pretty simple unless your car suffers from boost oscillations. At that point, It gets complicated (at least for me).

I'm getting my HFS-4 in the mail today

Hey marwan! Things have been good, got hit pretty hard by those storms that hit the mid Atlantic(just got power back yesterday lol.) But I can't complain some got it a lot worse than I did.

I had to leave my AP at the tuner shop so that if Cobb had to test anything they could. I'm waiting on the shop to ship it back as we speak, however the owner/tuner/driver was recently signed on to the Puma WRC team so he has been away for the shop for a couple weeks. No big deal and I understand stuff like that happens. Fortunately, they received the software fix they needed last week. The next available day they had open that I also had open is July 30th.

When I get my AP back I will be playing with ATR, I will be reticent to do anything more than just throwing a little bit of timing on top of the stage 2+ map. Not only that but I'm really looking forward to learning from someone that REALLY knows heir stuff.

Congrats on the HFS-4!!! Really looking forward to what you can get out of it. Its about time us Cobb guys start showing off of what can do lol

Why only 18PSI and peak at that? Can't the RBs handle a lot more consistently and smoothly?

I assume this was on 94 octane?

The owner is a road course kind of guy. Pump gas no meth. I think he wanted to keep the turbos cooler with less boost.

I am actually happy so far with the result I get. I know AWD naturally runs slower than RWD that's not a big deal for me. Please don't bash about the potential of RB turbos because pushing it to the limit is not my goal. My goal is not to stress things up on the track. On the other hand, I didn't run meth yet cause I wasn't a believer of it and after the dyno it makes me really thinking of getting it.

I think once I get the meth kit and dyno this car in a cooler environment, I expect to get 450-460 awhp.

I actually don't know too much tuning logics so I am hereby to thank Dzenno for his consistent support!!! Very kind and honest man!

Great job! But you're saying a rwd stock 335i would make 270-280whp on this same dyno when the xi stock is making 247whp? There is that much of a drivetrain loss with awd?
