my first speeding ticket.

the day after i got my 2006 325i.
i was on I-95 Highway going around 120mph and there was a state trooper car in middle of the road in grass. (completely stopped sideways)
which looks like he is looking for speeders.
so as soon as i saw him i hit the brake.
which probably didn't do much, but he didn't follow me or even moved.

so that was not my first ticket.
i'm glad it wasn't my first ticket, and i'll probably never do that again.

my first ticket is going 56mph on 35mph zone.
not that fast but costed me $360 to get me a lawyer to take care of it.
the lawyer knew the owner of the bmw dealership.
so he gave him a call and told me to go to him and have the car caliberated.
so i did.
and i don't know what happened.
what does having the car caliberated mean??????
the lawyer wouldn't tell me.
he just told me "don't worry about it"

A car's speedometer could show incorrect speed. Recalibration means to have it show real speed. I assume it was a joke - actually pretty funny one.

how can that be helpful to drop my speeding ticket. ??

Seeing as BMW speedos read high, calibrating the speedometer (if it was actually done) would mean you are more likely to get a speeding ticket in the future.

Calibrating the speedometer doesn't change your speedometer. It simply is a statement of what your speedometer reads and what your actual speed is.

IE reads 55, actual 53, reads 60, actual 58, so forth. It's a piece of paper. Nothing more. Having your speedometer corrected is a whole other issue.

well... i have already paid the lawyer.
and the ticket has been dropped.
i just brought it up bc i see a lot of people posting about their speeding tickets.

and... wouldn't my insurance go up ??
i mean... if the officer gave me like a ticket that actually had the amount to pay, i would have paid it.
but..... it said i had to show up in court at certain time.
and.. i was still in school at that time.
so i couldn't have made it anyways....
so got a lawyer paid him. no point, no insurance premium going up...
hmm... i don't know but.... i think you would have done the same...

The lawyer was trying to establish a "Foundation" in your case. In essence, your lawyer is using the argument that because your BMW speedometer is not showing the correct speed (the BMW is showing lower mph than actual), therefore, it was not your intention to drive at the speed the trooper clocked you at.

Obviously, this would not work if it is your word against the cops. Therefore, he had asked you to provide objective third-party evidence (in this case, BMW) to show that your speedometer is indeed inaccurate. I believe the case was thrown out or dismissed as a result.

The future repercussions to the OP from the insurance industry is too significant by paying the fine.

I agree the OP should get his lump. May be he can donate the "fine" to a charity of his choice.

He still had to pay money for the infraction. Either the government or the lawyer. I'm pretty sure I could find better things to do with the cash.
