Calling 330d LCi owners!
I've just had my 58 plate 330d in at the stealers for a brake fluid service and inspection of the cold start idle. When i start the engine from cold (over night or parked all day at work), im getting a shudder when the idle settles. Its enough of a shudder to cause the idle to drop by a few rpm and shakes the car so I dont think this is how it should be. They have replaced a glowplug which to me sounded like a good possibility for this particular problem, however this morning it has behaved as it did previously!
Can anyone else report the same problem? This is the N57 engine rather than the older pre-LCi M57 engine. |

I'd give it an Italian tune-up and see if there is still a problem afterwards.
Or run to almost empty; fill with BP Ultimate/V-power, then Italian tune up. Last edited by kaishang; 07-13-2012 at 05:46 AM.. |

It's been like it for a while, was just waiting to take it in for a service to get it sorted. I regularly give it a good blast so can't see an Italian tune up having much of an effect, plus Italian tune up are only really a method of warming up petrol CATs to full operating temperature.
And I refuse to use more expensive fuel on a vehicle that should except regular diesel. It's either an engine 'characteristic' (hense reason for this thread) or there is something technically wrong. Last edited by AdrianSi; 07-13-2012 at 07:12 AM.. |

I've noticed mine has been shaky on start up too recently.

I haven't noticed anything in mine.
The Italian tune up idea + expensive fuel idea is because there may be some gunk somewhere inside which will get burned off by a bit of high engine temperatures plus fuel with Palmolive detergent in it, but if you already give it some good runs, then I am out of ideas. What is the mileage on yours? Is it auto or manual and if auto is the shudder in Park or Drive idle? |

Is this something that has developed or possibly something you didn't notice before? |

Developed I think although my wife does most of the cold starts so I guess it's possible that it's been doing it for a while.

Had it in mine. Tought it was gonna be a glowplug but it turned out to be a loose intake manifold swirl flap. Common issue on the older E46, not really on the E90. Had them removed, problem sorted!!

Since changing from VPower to standard Shell I have noticed ours does this too. May be a coincidence and once warm its actually smoother now plus there has been no change in MPG. Ours has done 30k miles.
