Cool cars spotted
I had a thread about exotics spotted around the area, but it's pretty much dead by now. But every time I see a cool car around here, I want to tell my e90post friends.
I mentioned in the other thread - I saw a black BMW Z8 in Great Falls the other day. A cool, rare sight. What made me want to start this thread - I drove behind a metallic tan (like the old E90 Sonora color) Lotus Exige S to work today. First Exige S I've seen on the road (I've seen the Elise several times before). Beautiful car. I swear, I think the guy was using it as a DD, going to work in it. Looked like it didn't have very good visibility around or out the rear window, though.

Oh, and one I forgot to mention on the other thread -- but about 2 months ago, got behind a Ford GT40 on the Beltway, maybe 9:30pm on a Wednesday night.
No shit, he took it up to, I'm guessing, about 120 mph. I was traveling only a little over the speed limit, so he was pretty much gone after only a minute. I couldn't believe he had the balls to do that on the Beltway, what with all the cops around here.

My buddy captured a picture of a silver Audi R8 today in Tysons Corner.
The tags were from Michigan and it looked like the driver was a test driver for Audi. The guy was screaming "No Pictures" when he was filling up at the gas station.

There is a Ferrari 355 conv. in my complex - the guy keeps it in the garage until the weekends. I've also seen a red 360 and black 430 in Columbia.
I was tooling down I-95 last weekend when I saw an M6 comin' fast (I was already doing 80-ish at the time.) I had the windows down and could hear that beauuuuutiful V-10 go screaming by. (Not that he went too much further than me with the traffic that day.)

I've sat in a Porsche Carrera GT at the Track before (VIR). Then the owners son drove it off the track and hit a tire wall. Nothing major, looked like simple body damage of the driverside rear quarter panel. I heard later on the repair bill was like $25k - $30k.
Crazy!!!

I don't know that the BMW Z8 or Exige S would count as "exotics," but they're cool, and you don't see them every day.
For the record, a couple of exotics I've spotted in the area within the last 6 months but mentioned in the other thread are a yellow Porsche Carrera GT (in McLean) and a black MB SLR McLaren (in Tysons). Oh, and another cool car you don't see every day -- a black Aston Martin DB9 in a parking lot in Tysons, with temp tags. ase - I think the GT40 I saw may have been the same one you took a picture of. Is that Georgetown?

It was almost 2 years ago but a silver Carrera GT on the River Rd sidewalk (by Little Falls Pkwy) with it's wheels perpendicular. Just looked like they snapped right off. Amazingly the guy was very calm.
Orange Lambo that looked something like the green one on GW Pkwy a couple of months ago. Looked painful creeping in traffic. Gray Ferrari (yeah I'm really bad w/models unless it's a pcar but it was newer) yesterday in Chantilly. He was taking up 2 spaces at an angle right in front of the store I needed to go to  I don't take pics though maybe I should. It creeps me out when people take pics of my car but then I guess others love the attention.

It's okay, ase. I lived in Dupont for many years. I find that suburbanites think it is this flaming gay place. Parts are, but in general I think it's the best place to live in DC. Better than G-town, Adams Morgan, Foggy Bottom, Cleveland Park, Capitol Hill, etc.

Who cares what people think? I agree with you BK, it's a nice central place and the real estate market agrees with the current prices.

The guy down the street has a blue diablo. Every once in a while he'll take it out.
To this day I smile when I hear it coming down the street. Not to thread hijack but I'm looking for a new place to live, do you guys have any recommendations for places in Dupont or other parts of NW? (garage parking is always a plus ). |

I was driving north on I-495 yesterday when I past these trailer trucks carry military equipment! There were a few humvees being transported as well, but unfortunately I didn't think about taking pictures on time, and my phone's camera was not quick. This is all I got, but nonetheless I still think they should be included in the cool category! Sorry if the pics are not the best, they were all shot with my phone's camera.

I need to get a camera with a phone on it for these things.
sean_z - the best places in Dupont to live generally are townhouses. There are some but not a lot of big apartment buildings. If you are looking for an apartment building with garage parking, I'd look in the Woodley Park and, especially, the Cleveland Park areas. Dupont is one of the few places in DC you can live without owning a car, and it's probably better not to own a car if you live there (tons of stuff within walking distance, Metro right there for when you need it, cabs easy to catch and you're in the main cab zone of the city so cabs are cheap because it's a single zone all the way over to the other side of Capitol Hill(!)). 7 of the 8 years I lived in Dupont, I didn't own a car. FWIW, in Dupont (and Georgetown and Capitol Hill), the best way to find an apartment is to walk around and look for signs. Most townhouse apartments aren't advertised. If you're heterosexual, you probably want to live on the north side of Dupont Circle, like 18th and 19th up along Q, R, S, and T streets. Down on the south and west sides of the Circle is mostly gay, like 21st and P area. Going up north along Connecticut Avenue from Dupont, once you get around Woodley Park, there are lots of good apartment buildings. Cleveland Park is a great place to live if you are looking for apartment living.

BK - Thanks a lot for the info
Sounds like Northern Dupont or Cleveland Park are good places to look. I will likely be going to UMD College Park daily so a car would be a big help. Now how the commute will be .... thats a different question . To add to the exotic car spotting, I saw a yellow Ford GT in Cascades Sterling a few months ago. |
