service stats not advancing??

Not sure if I should have posted this here or in the iDrive forum - but it does pertain to maintenance and service:

I recently (2 weeks ago) purchased a 2006 330i (sports, premium, navi). When I go through the 'info' screens in iDrive, I don't see any of the checks/services counting down and everything is marked OK. Here are the stats I'm seeing:

05/2013
Brake fluid
Next change:
see above date.

03/2014, 17000 mls
Engine Oil

06/2014, 39000 mls
Microfilter

17000 mls
Front brake pads

20000 mls
Rear brake pads

Engine oil level O.K. (shows green bar going to 'max')

Should these be counting down??

Also, on a side note, what should my tire pressur be? I'm measuring 18/20 in the front and 26/27 in the rear. Door panel says 32/36 front/rear but it's hard for me to believe that my tire pressure is soooo low. Is it because of TPMS that my handheld tire pressure gauge is reading low??

Until the service item is near due (within under 10,000 miles) you'll really not notice the countdown changing much until the computer collects a lot of trend data and starts to show countdown in increments of 1,000 miles. The brake fluid is a date, so it won't change until the month it is due is passed. Based on what your mileages are you have a long way to go before you'll need service on any of those items. Be patient.

If the TPMS is not notifying you of low tire pressure, you should buy a high-quality dial pressure gauge and check the tires again. You should be checking and adjusting pressure on a monthly basis anyway.

And after setting your tires to the 32/36 recommended specs when cold, reset the TPMS according to the instructions in the manual. As it generally reacts to a drop of about 25% from the baseline setting, you should then get a warning if the f/r tires drop below 24/27 psi respectively.

But since you should naturally be also checking them with a gauge monthly so you hopefully will never see the TPMS warning icon.

Great! thanks everyone

Yup got a nice hand held digital air gauge, pumped it up to 32/36 and went into the iDrive menues, and I 'think' I reset the TPMS, but I will check the manual to make sure I did it right. I was just really surprised the tires were so low and there was no warning. Maybe the original owner reset it without checking the tire pressure.
