Hi,
i have seen few cases where the carbon build up is so massive that affects the working of the engine.
My question is, instead of doing sea foam or any other dealer related cleaning procedure can recommended use of over the counter fuel injector cleaners prevent this build up?

None are effective. After reading many posts on here seems the walnut shell blasting is the only true effective system. Aside from dis-assembly and manually cleaning each port. As they say here "search" is your best friend!

I just want to say NO cuz this has been covered thousands of times.

We have direct inject, injector cleaners don't touch the intake side valves, literally can't help at all, not even a little on the carbon buildup.

I don't think that will do much. From my experience (just did diy walnut blasting and cleaning last weekend) it is in there pretty good and is very hard to remove without scrubbing etc.

With due respect, I dont think you do understand. Fuel inj cleaner might help in keeping injections spritzing near their optimum levels but as said before, direct inj cars intakes loaded with carbon buildup are not exposed to the cleaner and wont benefit from it.

I do understand that the fuel injector cleaner will not clean the intake but the last link is one of those that you use through the air intake, spray type of thing. unless if i am mistaken.

The build up is way to strong for off the shelf products that simply spray the the intake.

It's like plaque On your teeth. Sometimes you just have to go and have it scraped off. Toothpaste and mouthwash doesnt affect it . Periodical cleanings of the carbon will be the same.

Has anyone used seafoam in crankcase successfully? Did it clean the valves?

Will not help. There is nothing that you can dump in any part of the engine to get rid of this buildup. Just do the carbon cleaning at a dealer, or indy or diy. It is definitely worth it.

Here is a "stupid" question:
How can I determine if the engine intake requires cleaning? can I "see", can I "feel", or do i just go with specific mileage of the car?

You can feel it, rough idle and cold start. Also how many mile? Anything over 50k and never been cleaned is just a good idea to have them cleaned. I noticed a hige difference after cleaning and bought an BMS OCC right after. Could not be happier with results.
