Water pump Went south :(
Just picked the car up
This is what unfold 3 days ago..........! Car felt like it had a limp mode with out the SES Light/reduce power icon. I did get the the Amber water temp light which changed to red color within a minute which made things bad...as in car would not move bad, no power whatsoever, gas pedal was dead. pulled over, checked coolant after it cooled off. it was pretty much full with blue 50/50 BMW coolant (I always keep an extra 1 gallon in the trunk as a precaution) Turned netbook on and plugged BT tool. I got the bellow Error... Anyways, after 30-40 min off the car being turned off after I started on I wasted no time and drove as soon and safe as possible to my mech 5 miles away @ Precision autoworks in LakePark near northlake blvd. John has been working on it since out of warranty. car has 113K now. Parts: $540 (water pump & Thermostat) Labor: $380 = $920 out. I called braman in W.P.Beach since I was much closer to them and they quoted me $1450.00 for replacing the water pump. I am happy to report that the car is back on the road, did couple WOT Pulls on the turnpike, didn't even go above 230 Tops. 2007 FBO..Procede V5 w' 5-23 Aggressive maps 50/50 blend of E85 couple links I found online: Water pump Part#: 11517563659 http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...w=61&maxRow=10 Thermostat Part#: 11537549476 http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214672 Last edited by GreekMaverick; 07-16-2012 at 05:40 PM.. |

I was about to say the same thing.. mine has 50k on it now and I'm just mentally preparing myself that the pump could likely go without warning within the next year..

Hot summer, lots of failures. I'm also ready for mine to go at any minute and have a spare at home to install when it does. 143k on the original pump.

I have had civics and camrys with way much more headaches and failures than the 335i. This car in my book is solid and very reliable. I drove to Miami from Boston when we first moved here. Then I drove back to Boston because that's what I got as a base with the company I fly for, then my Company decided to closed Boston and give the flying to JetBlue, got awarded Miami and down south I drove once again...Car has been SOLID. And with a tune ever since 4K. (Turbo tuner > Xede > JB hot pills etc etc ) So far in its life the car has had. A)2 Fuel Pumps. B)Water Pump/Thermostat C)Turbochargers Turbos were replaced because I called BMW USA w' a lawyer every single time the dealer would tell me that the wastegate rattle was all in my head (same turbos with redesign wastegate arm) |

sucks to hear...thankfully the waterpump/thermostat can be accessed by taking off the underbody shield and swinging the sway bar away, electric waterpump FTW (in this case).

I've been going to the dealership for everything because it was convenient warranty and free loaners but after the warranty went out and they were gonna charge me $700 dollars to replace the oil filter housing gasket. I decided I wasn't going to take it anymore So I looked on craigslist and got lucky. So far my indy Tech worked on my oil filter housing gasket I think he charged $240 for that job.. changed my water pump and all my O2 sensors.
