Experienced Jb4 Owners Please Chime In!
Hey guys, I have an 08' w/ stock oil cooler, I do NOT track it, but I do push the car on a regular basis. I'm about to purchase a JB4 and want to qualify this first:
1. Is it safe to run this tune w/o upgrading OC for my 'agressive' daily driver? 2. Is it safe to run this tune w/o upgrading IC for my 'aggressive' daily driver? 3. Do those who have made these other upgrades seen a difference in more USEABLE power on very hot summer days? I also know that essentially by doing this I'm shortening the long term lifespan of my engine and parts. Despite this, I'd like to do my best to curb this by providing as much cooling as possible. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I CAN GET AWAY WITH IN THE SHORT TERM (6 months or so) BEFORE I PONY UP $$ FOR UPGRADING OC & IC. THANK YOU ALL ! |

An upgraded FMIC doesn't really give you much power gains but prevents power loss on hot day or on back to back runs. Just keep it on map1 or map5 for now and you will be fine, and when you mod more bring it up to map2, etc. Hope that helped. Mike Last edited by Mike@N54Tuning.com; 07-22-2012 at 09:39 PM.. |

I have a 2007 with stock OC and a JB4 set on map 5 with DCI. I have had no problems with reduced power even with this ridiculously hot summer we have had. It sounds like we are in the same boat. I dont track, but drive it pretty hard as a DD.

i have a 07 No oil cooler with 60,000 miles, tuned w/JB4 and DCI's only at 45,000 miles ran it this way for @ 5000 miles..... zero issues.
I used map 1, but most of the time on map 5. I put a intercooler and DP's on around 50,000 miles, still no issues with heat and i live in south florida. intercooler does not cool your oil temps or add horsepower, it allows you to maintain higher levels of HP for a longer period of time due to cooler intake charge. i have read on here some people dont even have them due to there driving habbits......... no back to back runs, no tracking the car...... if there not driving the car hard all the time i guess there not feeling the effects of heat soak. i got mine IC because i don't have a oil cooler and because i drive like an Ass....... or so people say. i'd be more worried about getting the DP's to make life easier for the turbos if your gonna get on it a lot....... expescially if going to use the stronger maps. I have no oil cooler and 100k AT. Ive been boosting with meth for 60K. If JB4 had e85 maps back when I bought my car, I would have never needed all my mods. DCI and some e85/93 mix on map 5 and you have a 12 sec car with 400+ at the wheels. I'm ready to start selling parts just to get my $ back because the autotune map for 85 changed the game. Car runs cooler burning alcohol. My meth injection no longer needed to achieve whp and boost up at 17 psi. All the tunes are the market today are amazing, its hard to pick for sure but if your budget has you considering JB4 then you won't be disappointed. Don't be surprised if you get bitten by the tune bug.... piggyback and an intake is how it all starts.

Oil temp really only becomes an issue on a track setting and once it goes beyond a certain point the car will go into limp mode, which is why most track guys run upgraded oil coolers as well as upgraded FMICs. Mike |

Thanks guys for this anecdotal information, exactly what I was looking for.
It's my understanding that the 80 + power gains JB4 advertises can be assumed on map 1 ? (the recommended map # for stock applications) Whats the difference between Map1 and Map5, and if my car is otherwise stock, just have DCI, do I have any use for Map5, or is it safe for me to use? Thanks Again |

Map 5 is the auto learning map. It will adjust target boost between 11 and 16 psi based on mods and other conditions. I run map 5 all the time. I find it pulls harder than map 1. It is perfectly safe. I find that I regularly hit 15 psi when the conditions are right. With map 1 you will top out at 13 psi.
