255/40/17 tyres fit on 8j x 17 ?

Will 255/40/17 tyres fit on 8j x 17 alloys?

A 255mm tyre is 10 inches wide on the tread.

Staggered 255/34/18 (M sport standard rear) already look very fat on the 18" 8.5J rims, and the BMW 19" 255s go on 9J rims form the factory.

So its gonna be pretty wide for an 8J IMO, I might physically fit but it would look very bulbous.

8J is rated for 215 to 245max.
