in preparation for dyno.......
in preparation for dyno....... not sure if others have seen this thread on n54tech, but it's chock full of great information! http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=488
furthermore, I was even more curious if anyone has checked this out (for AT owners only) to prevent the kickdown in a 4th gear run.... instead of feathering the run, the dyno operator can feel free to mash down to get good TQ numbers w/o the worry of hitting that kickdown! Discuss.

So you put a piece of wood over the kickdown switch to prevent it from being activated and downshifting?
That's amazing. |

When I do my 3rd gear logs at 40mph, I don't smash it down hard just push the pedal down enough until you feel the kick down button and after a little higher mph I mash it down all the way like if that makes any difference. Tell the operator to practice it once or twice when the car is off, but you already put that wood so forget it.

^^ not my car... just posting a pic from n54tech... However, I do feel that this would allow a perfect opportunity for the operator to get a more accurate run in 4th from 1800-2200 rpm - this is mainly to show TQ. Sure, telling the operator and him actually doing it are 2 different things. This little widget prevents any confusion... hence sharing it. I can tell you that my previous runs were constantly plagued (different shops) with a proper run.

after speaking to Terry, he informed me that they are in the process of manufacturing kickdown blocks... but as you can see the pic below [showing my pedal] not all are the same.
I logged some runs this afternoon - and I am happy to say that my boost is back up to 17.x and pulls like a train, and dyno is scheduled for next week.... The kickdown is easy to prevent as there is a notable 'stop' just prior to the kickdown so... i guess this "widget" would prevent neanderthal dyno operators.... coz.. u kno.... they are out there.
